Ferndale High's 1958 football season was one to remember, if not for victories or championships, then for its thrills, stars, and spirit. It was a season complete with upsets, near upsets, runaways, sur- prises, excitement, and heroes. The Eagles, who were the Railsplitters then, fin- ished with a record of four wins and five losses. Probable the most important win was the one over East Detroit which enabled Ferndale to pull even with the Shamrocks in the Eastern Michigan League at three wins and two losses. Then there were those romps over Hazel Park and Berkley, the darker moments when Port Huron and Birmingham treated Ferndale in the same way, and the near misses with Pontiac and Dondero. It was a season in which coach Ted Meister achieved that milepost coveted by any football coach - 100 victories. In his years as head coach Ted Meister has put together 101 wins, 64 losses, and ll ties with three EMI. championships. Whoopsl Where did he come from, says Tom Morey.
