This year the Pep Club has made several steps forward in improvement. The aim of the officers and advisor has been to strengthen the quality of the club. One of the major improve- ments was the institution of a point system based on athletic events. Although there are many flaws in the system to be worked out, it has worked well for the first year. Pins are awarded to the girls wrho reach a set number of points. Most of the projects of the club have been to support the cheerleaders and athletes by par- ticipating in pep assemblies, attending athletic events, and cheering. Improving more than ever, the band has been an asset to Ferndale-Dale High School. Although it has continued in its usual participation in pep rallies, football half-time shows and basketball games, the quality of the band s participation has risen. This years half-time shows revealed not only precision marching and good music, but also originality and imagination. Some of the highlights of the shows were a combined show with Franklin and a show utilizing the Pep Club. At pep rallies and basketball games the band has done much to add to the spirit of Ferndale- Dale. Along with these attributes go the concerts which the band has presented this year. They demonstrate variety in music and the versatility of the band. Other activities that the band participated in are band camp and parades. In order to raise money for their various activities, band members sold gift wrapping kits at Christmas time. Rewards for the members hard work are in the form of letters awarded at the end of the year and nominations for county, district or regional band. Replacing the band council are the officers of the band: Donna Hill, pres- ident; Pat Rummel, vice-president; Doug Barnes, treasurer; and Fern Harrison, secretary. 82
