The Producer In the real world . . . “You will be expected to demonstrate higher levels of reading, writing, and speaking . . . you will also need the ability to communicate across cultures, to be a world citizen and to manage your lives better.” You have now reached the threshold of beginning life in the real, real world. It’s exciting! It’s a bit scary. You’re alive with anticipation! You’re going to miss Fermi High, with all it means in terms of learning, and friends. But take the plunge you must, like all those seniors before you, and build a vision of the future. The real world is in a constant state of change. Right now it is undergoing a veritable upheavel. We have, almost overnight, changed from an in- dustrial society to the technological informational society. By 1990 only 10% of the available occupations will be blue collar. Jobs in the information service area now make up 65 to 70% of the total workforce. You will be expected to demonstrate higher levels of reading, writing and speaking; vocabulary and conceptual understandings; math, science and technologies; and higher order skills to apply knowledge. You will also need the ability to communicate across cultures, to be a world citizen and to manage your lives better. In most cases this means more training and education. Imagine, all of the above and live happily ever after” too. It won’t be easy, but we, your parents, your teachers, your administrators, have faith in you. With the skills, talents, enthusiasm and ambi- tion you bring to the task, we know you’ll make it. Welcome ... to the real, real world! Mario A. Gentile Principal 19
