Through the extensive activity program at Fermi High every student has the oppor- tunity to sample the careers and experi- ences which one may wish to pursue after graduation. A 1 1 of these activities are or- ganized, not to create experts in a particu- lar field of I ntere st, but, by degrees, to present some of life ' s expectations. Res- ponsibility, dependability, and a sense of duty are some important qualities that each person might develop in coping with obsta- cles that arise in almost every activity. The Fermi Band, Lamplighters and the Future N urses C I u b are but a few of the outlets which enable a student to share his or her capabilities with others. Regardless of talent, experience or even age, interest Is the only limiting factor for membership to an activity. From there, only the amount of time and energy one devotes to a g r o u p deter m i ne s the satisfaction gained. Ac- tually, it is the FREEDOM TO CHOOSE that makes one ' s life pleasurable, dull, exciting or even solemn. This then. Is the underlying factor behind every activity, just waiting to be discovered and utilized by every high school student, as part of the diversification of maturity. s 7

To strive for the best is one ' s personal responsibility but to find this interest w here one can excel is the key . The variety of sports offered at Fer- mi High has given each indivi- dual achanceto choose one that will enhance and fulfill his or her particular goals. The degree to which athle- tics can benefit a person is un- fathomable. Consider the many assets attributed to athletics when used as a universal teach- ing tool. Self-control, leader- ship, aggressiveness, compati- bility, sportsmanship, and life long friendships create a seed, the basis for any type of growth in a team atmo s p he re. This seed is, in turn, implanted within every athlete through strenuous workouts and grueling matches. From there, each per- son nourishes and polishes a UNIQUE, SELF-SATISFYING personality ready to face and better the world in which we all live and work together. i I raiders beware-falcons are flying high ' 9 I
