ENGLISH DEPARTMENT Standing Left to Right: Miss Sharon Sullivan, Mrs. Esther Heffernan, Miss Mary Mackley, Mrs. Carolyn Lewis, Miss Laura Baione, Miss Rose Porcello, Mrs. Carole Jonaitis, Mrs. Janet Fox. Seated — Left to Right: Mrs. Eleanor Hines, Mr. Paul Raymond, Miss Mary Malley, Mr. Robert Kelleher, Miss Mary Ann Fonseca. Missing From Picture: Ms. Linda Lazarus. The English curriculum has been designed by the instructors in the department to help stu- dents be effective in the many uses of the lan- guage. In the required writing courses, it is in- tended that the instruction and concentrated practice will lead to clear and persuasive expres- sion of students’ knowledge and creative thoughts. Elective courses in many types of liter- ature give students the opportunity to learn, in- terpret, and apply the thoughts, as well as the writing style, of established writers of the past and present. To make it possible for all students to achieve these goals, a wide variety of course materials and teaching methods must be used. It is hoped that the curriculum will help stu- dents to be skilled and at ease in communica- tion, whether they are speaking or listening, reading or writing. 25 Miss Mary Malley, Department Ch ' airman

ART DEPA R TMENT “Man’s life differs from that of most other organisms in that individualization has become more important to him than strict conformity to i type. Individual capacity, viewpoint, choice and action are qualities that make us human. Self- expression, as manifested in art, distinguishes individuals as well as cultures. The artist’s prod- uct makes the man unique as much as his thumb print and signature single him out. Art gives voice to the self.’’ — The Arts and Man % Left to Right: Mrs. Jane Docker, Mr. Robert Foley, Mrs. Barbara Early.
