IVe look to H10 future with hope. 1'L'IIl-6IltfJl?7'ilIg the past with loyalty NE evening as I was sitting deep in my red leather chair watching the fiames curl and lick the pine logs with deceiving tenderness, mv gaze wandered to a simple picture of clouds and figures in a mist. As I watched, they revolved and spun in a whirling confusion and slowly seemed to settle. There, instead of mist and clouds, I beheld a little grass shack bathed in sunlight where sat a woman in a cellophane hula skirt combing her red-gold hair. Looking closer, I recognized Christine, who now was the reigning Princess of the Hawaiian Islands. The picture faded and Bailey's Beach emerged. A snappy car pulled up, driven by Joan, very chiely dressed and, oh, so familiar in her dark glasses. She was very excited for she was to deliver a lec- ture to Newport Society on the Evils of Bad Housingv. This picture was becoming dim when a shrill shriek and a thunder of hoofs almost took me out of my chair. Over the golden sand came Cynnie in chaps, plaid shirt, and lariats and pistols. VVith a shake of her famous hair, she was off to head a 1'ound-up of the few remaining buffalo. As the clouds of dust cleared away they revealed the inside of a theatre. Wlas that Nancy, our jester, so transformed into an actress of great charm? It was, and as the curtain went down the applause was so deafening and her en- cores so many that I became quite dizzy. Then I found myself at a horse show in Long Island. A beautiful bay horse cleared the jumps and on its back was Alky. Around she went again, each jump better than the last. As the Judge handed her a blue ribbon, I heard a triumphant whinny, which did not come from the horses. As I looked through the crowd for acquaintances, who should come up but Honey, peering anxiously behind great horn rimmed spectacles and trying to sell what she was peddling in a little cart. It turned out to be the History of Lan- caster-an abridged edition in five volumes. This faded away and behind a silver urn I saw Barbara presiding at a large tea of thoroughly intellectual and social people. They we1'e members of the Browning Society and she intended to read them a newly unearthed criticism on his works. VVho was this crowned with a wreath of orange blossoms and enthroned high above the townsfolk on a moving float? The many-colored lights revealed Tinka, who had been chosen Queen of the Orange Seasonv, being drawn in state, 5111'- rounded by a myriad of courtiers. I Oh! Something whizzed by my ears and there was Peggy marching over the fairway, with grim determination in herwide blue eyes. Following was a large gallery for she was playing off in the women,s finals. A murmur arose and a neat. approach shot bounded on the green and into the cup. She was winning! The picture whirled.
