U Student Council STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS L-R: Nancy Papp, Secretary, Bob Tippett, Vice President, Alex Geiger, President. Seated on Floor: Laura Allman, Treasurer U-Ji One of the most important organizations in the high school is the Student Council. The pur- pose of the organization is to give training in democratic living. The council operates as an ad- visory rather than a governing body. Students may have a voice in the governing of school af- fairs through the Student Council. The Student Council meets two days a week and the Execu- tive Committee one additional day. Much of the work is done by the standing committees-Assem- bly, Safety, Service, Ethics, Publicity, Public Re- lations, Social, Election and Education. Each representative who is chosen from his or her homeroom has a definite responsibility to carry out. lf, at any time, a student feels that something in the school could be improved it is relayed to the representative who in turn brings it up at a Student Council meeting. The problem is discussed and the results are reported to the homerooms by each representative. ln this way student opinion is made evident. The Student Council is under the guidance of Miss Eileen Smith and Miss Regina Jerzewiak who have been working with the Ferguson High stu- dents for the betterment of the school. l8
