They attained this by becoming, along with St. Laurence, co-champions with a 6-1 League record and a 8-2 game record. In Fenwickis two pre-season games against St. Leo and St. Joseph, the Friars had little trouble posting victories, 34-0 and 26-7 respectively, behind superb blocking and tackling, the running of Pete Meade, Dave Gall, and Jim Mota, the passing of Bob Dobry, and the receiving of Joe Rooney. Against St. Laurence, the Friars were edged out in the last minutes of the game. Fenwick scored on a 96-yard kick-off return by Marty Finan and a 20- yard run by Mota. The following week, the 'fJunk Yard Dogs upset St. Rita, 14-6. Mota scored two touchdowns in the first half, while the linebackers and defensive backfield held the St. Rita passing game in check thus ensur- ing the Friar victory. Marty Finan highlighted the game with three interceptions. Against Mendel, Mota, Gall, Meade, Dobry, and Donnell Lighthall all scored. In addition, John Rooney kicked six extra points as the Friars breezed by the Monarchs 50-16. Gordon Tech was chewed-up and spit-out as the defense, highlighted by a spectacular interception by Gall, shut out the Rams 22-0. f A .nn as
