Young men are highly complex creatures. All of them are occupied, if not pre- occupied, with people to see, places to go, things to do right now, today, yet in all probability they would not, without direction, attend to those pressing spiritual and intellectual needs of theirs, which, if not satisfied right now, today, can develop into chronic denciencies that would make an empty charade of their adult lives. Fenwick exists to provide this direction: the priests and laymen who have charge of the schoolls religious, academic, and athletic affairs devote themselves wholeheart- edly to the task of guiding the students under their care in the Clzristian directiovz, toward perfection as human beings and sons of Cod. Fenwick is a college preparatory institution, but it is not a mere stepping-stone to higher education. Fenwick trains men to be 'men-not just to be scholars, not just to be athletes, not even, in a sense, just to be saints. Fenwick affords its student an education for living-for living a fruitful and fully integrated college life, whether on the Catholic or secular campus, for living a life of achievement in whatever vocation they choose, for living the Christian life inthe world. --the Fenwick studcnt's spiritual development. The Dominican Fathers who staff Fenwick's faculty do much of their most significant work outside the classroom-offering Mass, hearing confessions, coun- seling students. There is one big reason for human life-Cod. It is the priestis vocation to bring God to men. To the Dominican Father an assignment to Fenwick does not involve formal education alone, it is, in the widest sense, the apostolate of youth. -the academic life of Fenwick. A highly competent 3 faculty and student body selected on the basis of their superior potential for academic success makes for an unusually fruitful classroom experience. It is his power to reason that sets man above the other creatures of th e earth and makes him his own master. To think is to be truly human. -the school letter, recognition of extracurricular achievement. But it is much more. It represents that singular something called 'fFen- wick Spiritfl Fenwick students bring this spirit to bear upon all their organizational activities--sports, music, debating, publications. Fen- wick spirit is the spirit of its students. This clan, this joy of living and pride in accompl-i ' ' ' school years will make today's Fenwick graduates thc Christian men of tomorrow, at once spiritual, thoughtful, and vibrantly alive.
