REVEREND JOHN FRANCIS JACOBS, O.P., Ph.Lic,, B.M.E., Director of Studies. Class schedules are prepared in the ottice of the Direc- tor of Studies. Father Jacobs then must see that the assigned schedules are enforced, keep a record of the students' grades, exhort and encour- age study, assign teachers to specific classes, schedule special examinations, explain to parents and students what is required for college entrance, and suggest to parents what courses would be best. The students who have difficulties with studies know Father Jacobs best. And it seems, too, that the comfortable chairs outside Father's office are al- ways kept warm by students who wait anxiously to see him. Rules are made to be broken, according to an old saying. But that is not Father Rear- don's idea ot discipline. Under the law all men are equal, and all Fenwick men come under the law. Father's name coniures up hundreds of associations: neckties, long sleeves, short haircuts, lost books, thermom- eters, auto parking, combination locks, friendly taps, late slips, and the inevitable JUG lsocial adiustmentl. But Father Reardon understands the students. He cheers with them at sports events, conducts pep rallies, manages the homecoming parade, sees that the sick are properly cared tor. To the Principal come all the problems which cannot be solved elsewhere in the school. He is the co-ordinator whose duty it is to keep all parts running as a unit. Under Father O'Connell's management, a number of important changes have been madeg es- pecially affecting the students is his in- sistence upon higher scholastic standards. Despite his many duties, he has arranged to interview each senior privately for pre' college counseling. An important duty is to foster good public relations. He is a permanent mem- ber of the National Executive Board of the secondary school section of the Na- tional Catholic Education Association and secretary of the regional unit. Father Tucker, the dean of the staff, began teaching here in 1930, Father Conway started in 1931, Father Van Rooy, who came in 1931, spent two years C34 and '351 at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. O'Brien was graduate football manager in '34 and began as trainer in 1935. Father Malone ranks next 119351, then THERE GO THE TREES in the back yard to make room for a playground.
