MRS. MARY DURKIN Z7 e ciilanclci which guiale MSU Mrs. Mary Durkin, a teacher in the Chicago school system for nearly twenty years, came to Mount Vernon from Kelly High School in February ot 1956. She was selected class sponsor of the l959 June graduating class and with it entered into the bustling lite at Fenger. Mrs. Durkin put a great amount ot valuable time and tedious, hard labor into her capacity as class sponsor. She was a valued member of the Mathematics Department who taught trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. But more important, she was valued by the students of Fenger as a truly sincere person. Always gay and warm-hearted, Mrs. Durkin never tailed to brighten the day with a smile and was continually interested in the various problems and achievements of everyone around her. Fenger will miss her and, therefore, it is to her blessed memory that this 1960 Courier is dedicated. 5
X. The capable hands of the General Superintendent ot the Chicago Public Schools belong to Mr. A . ,mn Qs, Beniamin C. Willis. Since his acceptance of this 'X WM position in 1953, he has progressively worked A toward his primary obiectives of housing the school children of this city and providing superior education for all. Across America, teachers, students, and parents are realizing the urgency ' of making America's schools better. Mr. Willis has joined in this educational warfare with ambition and encouragement and has been named President of the American Association of School Administrators. Recently he said, Chicago is o great city, and its schools are part of its greatness. MR. BENJAMIN C. WILLIS General Superintendent ol Schools MR. RICHARD H. SANDERS District Superintendent l8th District Under the direction of Mr. Richard H. Sanders, district superintendent ofthe 18th district of Chicago Public Schools, are three high schools and twenty-tive elementary schools. All these buildings and their occupants present numerous problems, which Mr. Sanders readily accepts as his responsibility. Putting into practice new school curricula, directing the oftice personnel, carrying out the requirements ot the school board-these are a few of the many tasks that keep a district superintendent busy.
