F Q4 I V A EDMUND IARIS Principal Mount Vernon MUUNT VEHN Early Morning Scene Mount Vernon Branch Incoming students who reside in the northwestern part of the Fenger district spend their first year of high school at the Mount Vernon Branch Approximately 300 students go to the branch located at 10540 Morgan Street The building which also houses Mount Vernon hlementary School has a large auditorium and gymnasuim several laboratories and a library The students are affiliated with the main building yet remain separate They have many of the activities enioyed by the mam such as band orchestra reelmen G A A hall ma shalls student council and student librarians There are ten divisions and each division elects representatives for the News Courier PTA and also two student council members. The student council promotes a social program for the school, sponsoring such things as socials, movies, and parties. Girls with a good scholarship record are chosen to work in the office, doing filing, answering the phone, and acting as general secretaries. Since the bell system of the high school differs from that of the grammar school, boys must be chosen to ring the bell for the high school students. Thru these many activities the freshmen are pref pared to be active students when they come to Fenger in their sophomore year 25
