TRIAL OF THE 4A CLASS The stage is set for another great drama. An- other semester has passed. The great king, Prog- ress, is once more on his throne. He is holding court for the 4A Class. He asks them what they have done in the way of progress. Paul Peterson, the class president, is now before him. If he can- not convince the king that the 4A's have great achievements to their credit, the class is doomed. Paul is speaking. Your Majesty, once there was a time, four years ago, when we entered this grand building, Fenger High School. We were in a New World, under new circumstances, new teachers, and new surroundings. Our trivial knowledge allowed us little advancement in a place dominated by ex- perienced upper classmen. It seemed almost hope- less that we would succeed at all. Only the great fighting ability, which has carried us through our four years of school, kept us going. Finally through our great struggles we be- came sophomores Light was beginning to pene trate the haze of bewilderment about us The mem bers of our class had begun to see what was going on about them Many became members of the Phorex some were in the band some in the clubs im Roggeveen and Charlie Kassay became inter ested in football fand are we glad they d1d 'j Eugene Ely was a member of the track team which won the only city trophy which we have in track All in all we were beginning to b a part of the school our progress was then rapid We became uniors Our class was already nearly running the school The girls held the suc cessful Frolzcs Sarah Gunn Lois Ewing and Mike Fundukian took part in Daddies Roger Bragg was the hero of Marflaa and an admirable one too Dorothy Pedersen and Angeline Faoro discovered that they could write while Wally Carlson Bob Buckley and March Marchetti be gan to make the fish look like snails Shirley Miles was already giving the school a taste of real poetry Chester Lyman and Franklin Ballou be came ardent lovers of the stage fThey just adored putting the lights off and on J Milton Rosenberg began to make the football fans yell louder than they thought they could On the News Staff some of the most prominent members were 3A s of our class Among those not mentioned thus far Alex Klavd Ivar Ohman John Stephens Elizabeth Ritchell, and Marie Wintercorn. Then too, your Majesty, what good would the social orchestra be without Ernie Drenthe and his saxaphone, Leonard Knox and his piano, and john Frigo with his sax. Other members of the class did too many things to mention them all right now. I believe this is already a good record, but I'm not nearly finished. As seniors we took over al- most complete control of the school. John Rogge- veen, as vice-president, and Ruth Perry, as secre- tary-treasurer helped us to guide the class through a successful 4B semester. Again the girls fwe'll have to admit aided by all the other classesj came to the front this time with their Bazaar. The things were so well made that they had all been sold by early evening. At the bazaar, dancing was the means of a happy ending. In the Letter Girls' Club, from our class, were Ruth Nelson, Roxie Marabain, Mildred Anderson, Margaret Sabo, Ver- na johnson, and Florence Green. We then treated the 4A s to a return party oh happy event' After the entertainment was held in the Thomas Craw ford Hill Auditorium everyone went to the girls gym where refreshments were served by the so cial committee including Evelyn johnson Cath erine Barmer and Florence Doolittle The faithful social orchestra then furnished the music to which we danced At the end of the semester we gave the 4A s their dance On Friday the 13th throw mg to the winds all fears of bad luck we held our prom The Jinx took pity on us and everyon had a wonderful time Some of the class took leading parts in Green Sfoclunigs Fred Asmus took over the control of the National Honor So ciety Lillian Malnassy and John Ely edi tors in chief began with the Courier staff to form our wonderful semi annual We in itiated the 4Bs to seniority 0 St Pat rick s day with all the trimmings entertain ment refreshments and dancing The glee clubs put over another successful entertainment It was really two shows in one The boys presented a mmstrel and the girls an operetta Jack Peacock conducted a successful Clean up Campaign Thus you see that our class has really made great progress just as Chicago has in the last one hun dred years Ah' The king is pleased Why he is even giv ing Paul a silver loving cup for the best class that graduated thus far Our work is completed Nm MM s 1 , ' ' ' ' s 1 ' - ' . . . . , ' Q . . , - 7 9 ' - . .
