DEDICATION TEN YEARS OF DEDICATION TO FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY Dr. Charles A Lyons, Jr. began his tenure as President in 1969 and was named Chancellor in 1972. During the past ten years several major achievements were made under Dr. Lyon ' s leadership. The University maintained a main campus in urban Fayetteville, and established University Centers at the Fort Bragg-Pope Air Force Base Installation, at Goldsboro, Smithfield, Silver City, and Clinton. The University gained accrediation by the National Council for Accrediation of Teacher Education. The number of doctorate degrees among the faculty increased from 25% to 46%. The University expanded the administrative structure to include a Provost and Vice Chancellor for Aca- demic Affairs, Vice Chancellor for Student Development, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, two Academic Deans, a Dean of Continuing Education. A viable Weekend and Evening College was established. A new residence Hall, an academic building, a student center, and a continuing education center have been completed; a modern science complex will soon be completed. Fayetteville State University initiated the operation of a Graduate Center that is to be administered entirely by the University in the near future.
