DEDICATION TEN YEARS OF DEDICATION TO FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY Dr. Charles A Lyons, Jr. began his tenure as President in 1969 and was named Chancellor in 1972. During the past ten years several major achievements were made under Dr. Lyon ' s leadership. The University maintained a main campus in urban Fayetteville, and established University Centers at the Fort Bragg-Pope Air Force Base Installation, at Goldsboro, Smithfield, Silver City, and Clinton. The University gained accrediation by the National Council for Accrediation of Teacher Education. The number of doctorate degrees among the faculty increased from 25% to 46%. The University expanded the administrative structure to include a Provost and Vice Chancellor for Aca- demic Affairs, Vice Chancellor for Student Development, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, two Academic Deans, a Dean of Continuing Education. A viable Weekend and Evening College was established. A new residence Hall, an academic building, a student center, and a continuing education center have been completed; a modern science complex will soon be completed. Fayetteville State University initiated the operation of a Graduate Center that is to be administered entirely by the University in the near future. The Associate of Arts Degree Program was established at the University Center at Fort Bragg. ■ Dr. Carlton J- Barber, Chaii BOARD OF TRUSTEES Mrs Marv Clark, Vice Cha Mrs Emaretta Felton, Secretary Mr Charles W Fairley Mr Dickson McLean, )r Mr Albert Ru 28 m W ' f m :M li Mr Felton Capel Mr Robert Atkins, SGA President Not Photographed. MARCHING BRONCO BAND MIGHTY BRONCO BAND I ' ll Do My Part Dedicated To Our Parents Although I did not have to sit in the back of buses, or stand up to let another person sit down, I know you did this for me so now: I ' ll do my part — I know that when you were denied the rights to freedom of choice you did this so I would not have to so now: I ' ll do my part — I know that you endured being called all types of names such as nigger, colored, and boy that you did this so I would not have to so now: I ' ll do my part — I know now that when you could no longer endure the pains and hardships of being different you spoke up so I would not have to and so now: I ' ll do my part — I ' ll do my part when it comes to voting for presi- dent of these United States so 1 can have a voice in this new America. I ' ll do my part when it comes to educating myself to the fullest of my natural ability so that I can walk through doors that you opened for me. I ' ll do my part in educating my children about how difficult it was for you as my parents to get over the hump and how much easier and less bitter the struggle for survival has become because you did your part. Mom and Dad I ' ll never stop wondering what was in your hearts when you did your parts, and I will not stop until I DO MY PART. Thank- you. (7L C5vUv -- y c.MM BLIND AMERICA Why Must America be so blind. To think she can see thru her behind. In order to correct the Masses, We only need to get some glasses. We tax our mind and brain, Thru unnecessary stress and strain. Like the fire burning the wood. All we need is brotherhood. I know we have struggled for so long. Regardless of who is Right or wrong. But these things we must forget. Before we are forced to regret. I am a man and this I know. But when I journey it does not show. Because of the Color of my skin, I can ' t be accepted like other men. The lenses we need must be clear. To help us see what ' s happening here. To recover we need our sight. We must correct the wrongs to right. We are also a people of this noble land. But my equality seems hard to understand. To prove to me that I am free. Give me the right of Equality. Things for us have been hard and tough. And accepting my equality will be rough. It is truly something that can be done. Only in unity will we be one. To be a strong and prosperious nation. We must improve our race relation. To rid ourselves of this color hate, The time is now before it ' s too late. We went to wars with major troops. But still remain in separate groups. On earth you may segregate. But it ' s unknown at the pearly gate. Just as America is so blind. Each day the sun won ' t shine. But to recover in stormy weather. Our shelter we must build together. Someone must lose and some must win. We must choose right to win in the end. We must make decisions that are truly right, while in our minds understanding is ripe. Because of the darkness of our faces. It bars us from most jobs and places. But if we could change our color, I don ' t think America will chose Another. A Nation divided with inside. Is facing death and will surely die. Togetherness can correct this wrong. And our country will be strong. I have tried and so have others. To prove ourselves to our white brother. In order to change our course. Equality is our only source. We give our dollars to care. To here, there, and everywhere. We Plant to sale our seed. When America is still in need. We pay no attention to the time. And slowly watch the rise in crime. But let ' s not let our hopes fade. And go to our brother ' s aid. Though our lives our course is one. To see the father and his son. And to ruly share in that heavenly grace. We must not judge because of race. We can win and this is true We all know what we have to do. We must put love in our hearts. And throw our hatreds in the garbage carts. In time for war we as soldiers train. But in our minds there is a strain. Are we training for our survival. Or because we think we are rival. There is one thing truly known. That America is all our home. This is something we all can see. But at home we must all be FREE. So why must America be so blind. To think there is sight in her behind. She might as well face reality. And give everyone their share of equality. ' fAA U r ' ..y Nero B. (Crazy Horse) Coleman DEAN J. C.
