msmmsBmmmm DEDIC FROM MOTHER The students of FSU are privileged to have in their midst a mother and daughter — Mrs. Alice C. Evans and Miss Edwinia Evans. They have been to some an advisor, to many a coun- selor, and to all a friend. It is with deep appreciation that the Staff of 1971 dedicate this volume of the FAYETTEVILLIAN to this family. Their never-tiring willingness to help students has caused many of us to reroute our paths. The Evanses hail from Fayetteville, N.C. Mrs. Alice Evans

mmm CO-EDITOR ' S MESSAGE It seems as if the year has |ust begun, yet the first semester is about to come to an end. As I look back on the past two or three years when I worked on the yearbook staff, first as |ust a member, then the next two years as an Associate Editor, and now as one of the Co-Editors. I must say that putting a yearbook together is really a task for anyone to encounter; it ' s not an easy job, believe me. At times you feel as if everyone is against you because you can ' t get the co-operation that you need and want; so you want to throw ev- erything away and forget the whole thing. As you recall, our last edition of the FAYETTEVILLIAN was very late. No fingers can be pointed at one particular person or group. This year the staff has encountered many, many obstacles and problems, and we really felt like forgetting it. Then we thought about you, the student body, and we kept work- ing trying to get pictures taken — missing numerous hours out of classes, processing pictures and trying to make deadli nes so we couldn ' t have a re- peat of last year. LaVERNE A. McNAIR Man Many have said that the 1970 FAYETTEVILLIAN was the best yearbook Fayetteville State has ever had, but Sisters and Brothers check out the 1971 FAY ETTEVILLIAN. We feel that it portrays the faculty, students, and administrators of Fayetteville State University as they really are . We, the staff of the 1971 FAYETTEVIL- LIAN, have really done our thing this year. There are pictures to make you crack your side, and many to make you wish that you were there too. As you turn the next pages of this book, we hope that you will remember, treasure, and cherish the events for many years to come. In closing. I would like to first thank the other Co-Editor, Robert Haskins, for his unselfishness in making decisions. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank Leonard Crumm, Joyce Hood, Re- becca Alford, Waldena Smith, and Beryl Williams for the unselfish giving of their time and energies in helping to put to- gether this, the 1971 FAYETTEVILLIAN. And now, we, the staff of the 1971 FAY- ETTEVILLIAN, proudly present to the students, faculty, and administrators our rendition of the 1971 FAYETTEVILLIAN. Truthfully yours. LaVerne A. McNair Co- Editor

ATION TO DAUGHTER Mrs. Evans gave willingly of her services from 1950 to 1970 as clerk-typist in the Registrar ' s Office. She attended New York University. Her daughter |oined the FSU staff in 1969 as an instructor in Sociology. At the beginning of the academic year, 1970-1971, she became acting chairman of the Sociology Department. Her academic attainments are as follows: A.B. — Shaw University: M. Ed. — University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has done further gradu- ate study at UNC at Chapel Hill. This mother and daughter team has proven themselves to be an asset to the University. Since they always wear a smile, this causes the student body to smile also. Mrs. Al- ice C. Evans and Miss Edwinia Evans will always be re- membered by the warm smile which they display. • !; With deep esteem, we dedicate the FAYETTEVILLIAN to The Evanses. They have been a light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet in all times of need. The strength of your character and depth of your thought leave with us a never-to-be forgotten image of the best in humanity.
