The social and educational changes which are occur- ring in the State of North Carolina at this moment demand th at the attitude of excellence assume a new meaning at Fayetteville State College. Either we — administration, faculty, students, alumni, and friends — ignore the scath- ing invectives which have been hurled at us and prove our critics to be correct, or we use the invectives as injec- tions to move and to spur us to achieve higher leveLs of competence and prove our critics to be wrong. The attitude of excellence we adopt will determine the cultural and intellectual atmosphere on the campus and the future of our College. The attitude cannot be im- posed from agencies outside the institution. It must be generated from within. This is a critical period for predominantly Negro educational institutions. Their survival depends upon the attitude of excellence which each of us is willing to de- velop. DEAN OF THE COLLEGE Dr. MaJvin Moore Registration in Lilly Gyrtmasium.
