Our Alma Mater, F. S. C. We ' ll stand by Old White and Blue ! --Mrs. Mary T. Eldridge (MOTTO) Res Non Verba (Deeds not Words) (COLORS) Blue and White FOREWORD Ten years ago Fayetteville State College was small in size, with big ideas. Today, those big ideas have become realities in the form of new buildings, new responsibilities and new in- structors. This, the Fayettevillian staff has tried to express in this yearbook. As editor of the Fayettevillian, I thank the staff for their diligent work, and special thanks to Luther Miller for helping to organize this book. Casandra Wallace EDITOR J 39E l the STUDENTS OF FA YETTEVILLE STA TE COLLEGE proudly PRESENT 1967 ) ) — n — — r- BRONCO INSPIRED m VOL, 10 FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA ■r M ' i MRS. HELEN T. CHICK DEDICATION The students of Fayetteville State College are proud to dedicate the 1967 edition of the Fayettevillian to Mrs. Helen T. Chick. Mrs. Chick, an associate professor in the art department at Fayetteville State College has served the college faithfully and inspired many of us to go forward with determined endeavors. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Virginia State College and did advance graduate study at Columbia University. She was employed by the college from 1945 to 1967 then reemployed in 1959. Mrs. Chick ' s husband, the late Dr. Clarence A. Chick Sr., professor emeritus, was also employed hereat Fayetteville State College. Before his demise. Dr. Chick was very active in the community in which he lived. He served as a member of the Mayor ' s Bi- Racial Committee; Fayetteville-Cuniberland Civic League; CumberlandCommunity Action Program Inc.; a recent trustee of the Fayetteville Technical Institute. We truly hope that Mrs. Chick will continue her fine work at the college for years to come; Dr. Mrs. Rudolph Jones PRESIDENT FAYETTEVILLE STATE COLLEGE PRESIDENT ' S RESIDENCE THE PRESIDENT AT HOMECOMING ,- CHRISTMAS FACULTY MEETING CHAPEL OFFICE 1 r TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION 9 - 20 STAFF TRUSTEES FACULTY 21 - 28 CLASSES 29 - 100 SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN MEMORIAM QUEENS SPORTS 129 - 153 FOOTBALL BASKETBALL BASEBALL TRACK INTRAMURAL SPORTS FACULTY SPORTS STORY PAGES ORGANIZATIONS 109 - 128 FRATERNITIES SORORITIES ACADEMIC SOCIAL DORMITORIES 101 - 108 ADMINISTRATION Kl It is a pleasure for me to extend congratulations and best wishes to the members of the senior class. You are graduating at a time when opportunities for employment, service and advancement are almost unlimited. It is my sincere hope that you have received the information and inspiration needed to help you succeed as you face chal- lenges in a dynamic and changing world. You go forth to join the host of alumni and former students who continue to bring glory and honor to their Alma Mater by their courageous deeds and noble living. I bid you God Speed as you leave Dear Old Fayette- ville State. Dr. Rudolph Jones PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE If;- The President and Mayor M. Evans at Bus Stop. Mrs. Alice Jones Secretary I Mrs. Rennle Galbreath yim « £ The social and educational changes which are occur- ring in the State of North Carolina at this moment demand th at the attitude of excellence assume a new meaning at Fayetteville State College. Either we — administration, faculty, students, alumni, and friends — ignore the scath- ing invectives which have been hurled at us and prove our critics to be correct, or we use the invectives as injec- tions to move and to spur us to achieve higher leveLs of competence and prove our critics to be wrong. The attitude of excellence we adopt will determine the cultural and intellectual atmosphere on the campus and the future of our College. The attitude cannot be im- posed from agencies outside the institution. It must be generated from within. This is a critical period for predominantly Negro educational institutions. Their survival depends upon the attitude of excellence which each of us is willing to de- velop. DEAN OF THE COLLEGE Dr. MaJvin Moore Registration in Lilly Gyrtmasium.
