Good citizenship. 2. Competence in teaching skills. 3. Desirable professional attitudes. 4. Skill in the communication of ideas. 5. An adequate understanding of children. mmmm 5gffl? ' f ! ' W «i! 6. An adequate knowledge of contemporary life. 7. Adequate specialization in one ' s chosen field. 8. A well developed and integrated sense of values. 9. Development to the height of individual ability. 10. A sound understanding of the role of the teacher and school in society. The knowledge man needs is that of himself. Our experiences at Fayetteville State have provided the means by which we realize our assets, our weaknesses, our capabilities. The years spent here have occasioned us to multiply our assets, strengthen our weakness- es, and develop our capabilities to the highest potential. With the recording of the events of another year in the annals of time, come reminiscences of a prosperous year- -reminiscences which will always be cherished by those of us who share the fruits of this year. The joys, the sorrows, the hopes, the anxieties, the achieve- ments, the failures flavor these fruits. We, the Fayettevillian Staff, attempt to capture these reminis- cences in the pages of this the 1964 Fayettevillian. ly yfujl EDITOR wmmim it i ji Uable of Cjon en s INTRODUCTION THEME DEDICATION CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION FACULTY CLASSES ORGANIZATIONS GREEKLAND CAMPUS QUEENS FEATURES SPORTS FINALE j n JTieinoriam 1917_jOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY-! 963 (Jar J eJouecf J reside ni -71 Jriencf io 71 1 Man JiincI Dnereas, me people of our naiiou aiia tne free wor a are siunnea ana saa- (fenecf So iJie draaic c eam of J ' ' resicfeot. -I giinecfi ; ana m LJnereas, t ie J resiaeni was a man of great personal inleqri I ii — a snining example of t ie purpose of failJi at worJi in m-en; a man of onunaless uiiaJitij and energij - a man fearless and (fauntJess in l ie advocacu of ine rian s and privileges of all :nen to snare fulJg in the Iieritage of our nation; a man ait i . a neuer-faiJing sense of jumor,- a famiJc man; a man of courage; a man fvnose life was aui t upon a concern for numan aignitu and i ik ideal of free- dom for all people; therefore 6e it Jlnown. t iat ttie students of iagetteuij e Otate C o ege express a profound sense of loss in Ine deatli of our t ' resident .Jo in 7it6gerala tl iinedu and join an people evergrvnere in e ending our deepest sgmpatng to t ie mem- oers of tne J resicfent s fami g. — ' Wr P - j ,f ' ■«3|lfe - - V ..■  Serial Uiew ■ ' nui ' J resicfeni ancf JKrs. In this class are the first graduates in majors other than elementary education. It is also significant that during this year the student body became integrated for the first time. The senior class is the first one re- quired to make a certain score on the National Teacher Examination in order to be certified to teach in North Carolina. The Class of 1964 will be the first to graduate with the name of Fayetteville State College on their diplomas. As the seniors depart I congratulate them on their contribution toward improving the standards and the intellectual atmosphere of the college. We shall follow their progress in the future with much interest. We hope that a spark has been kindled here that will inspire them to move onward and up- ward reflecting credit upon themselves and upon Fayetteville State College. Rudolph Jones President 1 ; President Rudolph Joi A.B., M.Jl, Ph.D. DR. M. E. MOORE, JR. B.S., M.A., ED. D. I am pleased to extend congratulations to the student body for their efforts in making this school year a suc- cessful academic pursuit. The College is depending upon you to uphold high academic standards which characterize its history. Continue to use your vitality and courage to advance your scholastic potential; intelligence can not be acquired without ex- ercise. Seniors--you have distinguished yourselves in various fields of labor; therefore, you are our representatives. Whatever happens to you happens to the College. You can never be separated from it. Because of your rich and noble experiences here, I am sure that your services in a world of opportunity will be most rewarding. Malvin E. S. McLeod ROLE OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT As an educational organ within our educational community, the student government at Fayetteville State College has a commitment to help provide an environment which will be most conducive to the in- tellectual growth of the student body. This includes academic, cultural, spiritual, athletic, and social af- fairs. Each contributes to the forming of the student. The student government is in the unique position of being the only elected, representative body on our campus with general responsibility for each student ' s welfare, but this doesn ' t mean that the student govern- ment should conduct some of the activities itself and see that the others are assumed by competent student organizations. One of the major reasons for organizing and sup- porting a student government is to provide a structure within which student needs can be presented effective- ly to the appropriate groups. The most significant roles of the student government are those which key on the contributions which it can make to the college through its program and activities.
