FOREWORD As you leaf through the pages of the 1963 edition of THE FAYETTEVILLAN, it will prob- ably be to you just another edition, but to those of us who worked on it, it represents a year of hard work, determination, exasperation, and sometimes enjoyment. It all began in September when all of the staff members were willing and eager to work. Carefully they posted schedules of time, date, and place for pictures to be taken. Letters were written requesting needed information. Surely this year the mistakes of past years could be avoided. But somehow, many of the same mistakes were made and a few new ones were added. There was, for instance the matter of those who could not arrange to be at the designated place when time to take pictures. They did not realize that two or three weeks later was too late, and that their picture could not be stuck just some place in the book. Write-ups for organizations came so slowly in spite of our deadlines. The yearbook staff members -- they who began work so eagerly -- began to find excuses why they could not attend the meetings. The library, they said, took up too much of their time. The teachers, they said, gave long as- signment. All too often, the Editor-in-Chief and four other members found themselves working alone. Now, we are not complaining, mind you. There were always those students who coop- erated, and there was always our adviser to keep our spirits up when they seemed to be hitting rock bottom. Finally, the book was off to press, but the job was not done. Proofs had to be read and reread, and the book eventually had to be cir- culated. Now that the job is all behind us, we feel sort of proud of the book and we hope you do also. Today it may be just another book, but tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow it will become a treasured possession, for in it you will find a year of your life that can never be recaptured except in your memories.
