SENIOR CLASS HISTORY VOLUME I In the fall of 1946 Fayetteville High School was filled with ninety five strangers having a slightly bewildered air And who were they'7 The Seventh Graders of course Soon losing our feellng of awe and gaining new confidence as the weeks went by we went success fully through our first year on the hill Mrs Davis was our sponsor VOLUME II Eighty four Eighth Graders returned the following fall With Miss Martha Bragg at the helm we were an active working group of students who participated in all of the activities open to us Two members of our class Jimmy Armstrong and Carol Sheiler were on the student council that year VOLUME III Back on the hill as Freshmen our number had diminished to eighty Although the pre dominating color was green and although we were looked upon with disdain by the upper classmen we managed to pass through the mysteries of our Freshman year Never would we have fared so well without the help of Mrs Gladwell Jimmy Armstrong was our presi dent this year This year also marked the beginning of the Junior Miss Pirate Campaign Thelma Whitlock was our candidate and she was elected by the student body in acontest sponsored by the A B Club We furnished members for the band the Dance OrCh9StI'a the Glee Club Junior I-hgh Basketball and Football B Team Cheerleaders Sponsored the first assembly over the Public Address System and sponsored the Freshman Frolic Our first high school year was finished gone ere we realized it VO LUME IV In September 1949 we returned as Sophomores with Jimmy Armstrong as our presi dent There were eighty of us that year and we were delighted to have Mr Kessler as our sponsor Our Class was ably represented in all school activities We as Sophs sponsored wiser and saying adieu to our classmates for three months VOLUME V With Glenn Conner as our president and Mr Feher as sponsor in our Junior year we numbered eighty five We quickly adjusted ourselves to being next to the graduating class in importance and most of us seemed to forget entirely the days when we were Freshmen and Sophs This was the year of those glorious classrmgs The Juniors also sponsored the annual Halloween Carnival the Homecoming Program gave the Junior Senior prom and won the Miss Pirate Contest with Nancy Pashion as their candidate 1950 51 was cl1 maxed for us by the Jun or picnic What fond memories we have of that year VOLUME VI 1951 52 This was it' Our Senior year The year to which we had looked forward with so much anticipation and which we greeted with a feeling of sadness We didn tfeel so elated as we thought we should when we were Freshmen Glenn Conner was again our class president and Miss Sims our sponsor Much credit is given to both of them for their guidance Change of residence call to service and matrimony had reduced our number to seventy This was the year of the Bowery Ball the first year the Seniors had EVER won the Miss Pirate Contest with Jean Snawver as our winning candidate The Senior Picnic an un forgettable day with the graduation shadow dogging our heels Emotions were near the sur face and the feeling of closeness was very evident Graduation day dawned for the largest graduating class in the school s history Proud we were also to be the first class to grad uate in the Fayette County Soldier and Sailor s Memorial Building We received our diplo mas bade a fond farewell to friends classmates, and to our Alma Mater I , - - I .. .. , , . a Sophomore Carnival. How quickly time flew! Spring came, leaving us a little older and

SENIOR CLASS PROPHECV On the n1ght of February twenty f1fth n1neteen hundred and f1fty two I dreamed that I was llvmg 1n the year n1neteen hundred and seventy two Whyl dreamed such a strange dream I cannot tell but lt 15 true It was concern1ng my class 50131-05g and wrote xt down for fear that I would forget lt The sub stance of that wh1ch I wrote I now relate to you In the year n1neteen hundred and seventy twol was travel1ng 1n New York C1ty Wh1le there I suf fered a stroke of paralys1s but thanks be to the attend 1ng phys1c1ans who were none other than BETTY CODY and JODEY BREITENHIRT I soon recovered It was about the sxxth day after the stroke that I began to talk and was very gay when BETTY and JODEY came 1n on thezr morn1ng V1S1t In our conversat1on that preceeded from our greetmgs we spoke of our h1gh school days and I learned that JODEY had Just made an 1nvest1gat1on of the domgs of the Class of 52 wh1ch were as follows BETTY and JODEY started pract1c1ng med1c1ne 1n New York on January f1rst n1neteen hundred and s1xty It sounded good to hear of the many d1scover1es they had made 1n the f1eld of med1c1ne Two nurses who were none other than THELMA WHITLOCK and FAYE GREWS had greatly axded them 1n the1r many d1scover1es GLEN CONNER Pre s1dent of the Un1ted States IS anx1ously awa1t1ng elect1on day JEAN ANN PLATT hav1ng not qu1te atta1ned her l1fe long des1re to play at Carneg1e Hall IS now play 1ng for Elmer over WOAY D D HASKELL marr1ed dur1ng the summer of n1neteen hundred and f1fty s1x He was head football coach at Notre Dame for several years but ret1red 1n n1neteen hundred and seventy JIMMY ARMSTRONG the famous chem1st just blew up HELL en w1th one of h1s exper1ments HELEN COTTLE has f1nally reahzed that the term Cheaper By The Dozen 15 not so NANCY CAVENDISH has at last recexved her d1ploma from Mlss Hlggenbotham s School for Young Lad1es RICHARD DUFF MAT!-IERLY who has taken the place of Sam Spade 15 now trackmg down suspects 1n h1s late st case Somet1mes we wonder how he fznds knees for h1s numerous secretar1es MARY COTTLE SHIRLEY SHOCKEY ANNA MAE SEXTON RUBY RHODES JEAN HARRIS BETTY HENSLEY and PAT BRUNK to s1t upon SONIA RILEY after becom1ng a profess1onal barber at West PO1nt has settled dovm to cuttmg the ha1r of her own l1ttle West Pomters JERRY KING has ret1red after accompl1sh1ng h1s amb1t1on to be elghteen years old JENNINGS ERVIN has just flown SUNNY MARSHALL to Bermuda 1n h1s Jet BUDDY LEARMONTH 15 now rackmg pool balls 1n Platt s pool room after losmg all he had try1ng to beat Jerry IU pool MAEOLA BLEVINS MARY BRAGG ULDINE WHEELER NANCY NEAL DOROTHY PATRICK and PATSY BROACH have f1nally succeeded 1n gettmg the1r M R S Degree JOAN M.IZ.E and PAUL MOREAU are now on a cru1se around the world JOAN MCCLUNG has estabhshed a modern up to date theatre 1n Fayettev1lle where nothmg IS shown but plctures of the Un1ted States MHTIDES Runn1ng st1ff compet1t1on at the Fayette Theatre IS KENNETH SEXTON takmg Roy s place r1d1ng Trxgger JOE ESKRIDGE has f1nally succeeded 1n WHAT 'P 1952 VERLA EARY has just accepted a pos1t1on as head rad1o techn1c1an with WOAY After months of travlemg all over the world BAR BARA MICHAEL has f1nally found a Job m Woolworth s 5 81 IOC store JEAN UNDERWOOD has fmally succeeded m bo1l mg water wxthout scorch1ng It JOE CUTHBERTSON and RAMONA SENEA have been happ1ly marr1ed for several years and are now ra1s1ng l1ttle backfxelders At La Guard1a A1rport managed by DICKIE WELLS a new Jet plane 15 bemg tested by the darmg jet p1lots HAROLD CONLEY and GENE RICE wh1le on the ground Hostess LORETTA WOODRUM IS apply1ng smell1ng salts to fa1nt1ng people Over by the hanger 1S an am bulance headed by Doctor MARY LEE ESKEW and Nurse MARGARET TEEL JEAN SHAWVER has marrxed an atom1c sc1en t1st and 15 busy ra1s1ng l1ttle atoms After a year of teach1ng ABC s to many l1ttle be g1nners BETTY BOCK was marrxed and IS now teach mg her l1ttle Cadets that the moonhght at V P I IS lovl1er than any other moonl1ght NANCY PASHION and Hurk are at the present ra1s1ng the1r own symphony orchestra JANIE PHILLIPS and JOHNNY EADES are now at the head of a Lonely Hearts Club each try1ng to f1nd a mate for the other W1ll they ever get WISE?
