SENIOR CLASS HISTORY VOLUME I In the fall of 1946 Fayetteville High School was filled with ninety five strangers having a slightly bewildered air And who were they'7 The Seventh Graders of course Soon losing our feellng of awe and gaining new confidence as the weeks went by we went success fully through our first year on the hill Mrs Davis was our sponsor VOLUME II Eighty four Eighth Graders returned the following fall With Miss Martha Bragg at the helm we were an active working group of students who participated in all of the activities open to us Two members of our class Jimmy Armstrong and Carol Sheiler were on the student council that year VOLUME III Back on the hill as Freshmen our number had diminished to eighty Although the pre dominating color was green and although we were looked upon with disdain by the upper classmen we managed to pass through the mysteries of our Freshman year Never would we have fared so well without the help of Mrs Gladwell Jimmy Armstrong was our presi dent this year This year also marked the beginning of the Junior Miss Pirate Campaign Thelma Whitlock was our candidate and she was elected by the student body in acontest sponsored by the A B Club We furnished members for the band the Dance OrCh9StI'a the Glee Club Junior I-hgh Basketball and Football B Team Cheerleaders Sponsored the first assembly over the Public Address System and sponsored the Freshman Frolic Our first high school year was finished gone ere we realized it VO LUME IV In September 1949 we returned as Sophomores with Jimmy Armstrong as our presi dent There were eighty of us that year and we were delighted to have Mr Kessler as our sponsor Our Class was ably represented in all school activities We as Sophs sponsored wiser and saying adieu to our classmates for three months VOLUME V With Glenn Conner as our president and Mr Feher as sponsor in our Junior year we numbered eighty five We quickly adjusted ourselves to being next to the graduating class in importance and most of us seemed to forget entirely the days when we were Freshmen and Sophs This was the year of those glorious classrmgs The Juniors also sponsored the annual Halloween Carnival the Homecoming Program gave the Junior Senior prom and won the Miss Pirate Contest with Nancy Pashion as their candidate 1950 51 was cl1 maxed for us by the Jun or picnic What fond memories we have of that year VOLUME VI 1951 52 This was it' Our Senior year The year to which we had looked forward with so much anticipation and which we greeted with a feeling of sadness We didn tfeel so elated as we thought we should when we were Freshmen Glenn Conner was again our class president and Miss Sims our sponsor Much credit is given to both of them for their guidance Change of residence call to service and matrimony had reduced our number to seventy This was the year of the Bowery Ball the first year the Seniors had EVER won the Miss Pirate Contest with Jean Snawver as our winning candidate The Senior Picnic an un forgettable day with the graduation shadow dogging our heels Emotions were near the sur face and the feeling of closeness was very evident Graduation day dawned for the largest graduating class in the school s history Proud we were also to be the first class to grad uate in the Fayette County Soldier and Sailor s Memorial Building We received our diplo mas bade a fond farewell to friends classmates, and to our Alma Mater I , - - I .. .. , , . a Sophomore Carnival.
