Dean 601114561 and Disczjvllze It is a well known fact that the deans of F.H.S. are strict disciplinariansg ask the hoy who was given twenty-four hours to get a haircut, with the threat of several visits to the notorious detention hall if he didn't complyg or let the girl relate her experience in the dean's office the day she had an unexcused tardiness. But given half a chance, the deans can be a student's best friend. These strict disciplinarians are as renowned for their tolerant attitudes and understanding ears as they are for the severity of their punitive measures. Miss Moore can be most accommodating in signing a dozen or so late bus passes, and lVlr'. Warren greets the honest complaint with his assimilating smile. The deans also conduct conferences with teachers and parents con- cerning such problems as discipline, school policy, and attendance. Be it known that no one ever entered the deanis office of F.H.S. seeking the solution to a sincere problem without coming away somewhat satisfied. Y N0 iPARKIN5t f X 3 limi f . Hhs Arts Hrcafvs zz Ward! of Kulfure The student of fine arts at FHS finds in this depart- ment a program which is a relish to the academic studies-a relief from the daily recitation in the lan- guages, the drills in mathematics, the complexities of social studies, the exactness of science. This department guides the student in the development of his abilities and in the maturation of his skills in the creative realm of education, whether it be art, vocal or instrumental music, or drama. The student learns that music is the universal language when he delves into the magic of Orchestra, Band, Music Theory, and Music Apprecia- tion, and he learns the meaning of vocal quality in the Mixed Chorus and Senior High Singers. Smoothness of line and blending of color concern the student who manipulates brush and pencil in the three levels of art skills.. And for the born actor, as well as he who aspires to drama without innate ability, the drama department offers inspiration and direction in the field of personi- fied literature. Thus, the opportunities offered in the fine arts department at F.H.S. purposes the advance- ment of more culturally-minded people. The fine art of holding a tea cup is illustrated by Mrs. Safran to good effect. MRS. INEZ C. BROOKS George Peabody College, B.S.g Art I, II, IIIg Art Club Sponsor if? 1, ,231 MR. FORREST T.
