Principal May I commend you upon a successful year at Fayetteville Senior High School ! My special congratulations are extended to the class of 1963. This class, born in time of global war, has ever lived in times of war, hot or cold. Its days of youth were spent in times of self-sacrifice for causes considered essential to the preservation of the principles of democracy. Its days of adolescence were spent in days of historic conferences aimed at build- ing a better world in which to live in productive activity. The class of 1963, so accustomed to change, arrived upon the Senior High School scene as I arrived to share with them, and those to follow, the great challenges of the rapid advance in education. Changes have come so rapidly that there has been little time for planning, less time for reflection, and hardly any time for relaxation. Electronic computers are rapidly beginning to outperform the genius of men. Automation is sud- denly replacing both the skilled and the not-so- skilled. The jet and the rocket shrink the earth to a fraction of its former size. The recognition of these facts serves as a challenge to greater endeavor, greater dedication, and greater achievement! Surely the demands of our time may tempt even the most dedicated to consider the abandonment of the principles of honesty, loyalty, and Christianity ! These foundations of our society are characteristic of the really great attributes which should never yield to change! If the people and the program of our school have helped to open the way for adjustment to the challenging changes of our times without sacrificing the principles which must remain constant for build- ing for great tomorrows, our days together have been well spent! 4 - John T. Sasser Principal 25
