61055 History We weren't really afraid but just filled with awe at the beginning of our sophomore year as we started our trip through Senior High . . . With the help of such capable officers as Ben Sutton, Carolyn Averitt, Dawn Carpenter, and Molly Sutherland, we came through that first year with flying colors! . . . Remember what a good junior-varsity football team we had ?-We had the top team in the eastern part of the state . . . We even had three of our boys, johnny Britt, Bobby Gore, and Ray johnson on the varsity team . . . Our class was well represented that first year in the Miss F.H.S. Contest as Louisa Mcllwinen, Cornelia johnson, and Missy Williamson were chosen for the court . . . Scholarship and Leadership in our sophomore class were acknowledged when Barbara Pawl received the Senior High Scholarship Award and Foster Cashwell was awarded the Citizenship Cup . . . With such success in every field that first year, we were really ready to go our junior year . . . And so we elected Billy Clark as class president, Don Mclnnis, viceapresidentg Martha Swain, secretary, Sandra Autry, treasurerg and Mae Murchison and Charlotte Lewis, secretary and treasurer of the Student Body to give us the best leadership during our junior year . . . That was the first year we had the Miss F.H.S. Contest in the fall. It was a lot of fun Qand worklj preparing for it. Again our class was well represented with Charlotte Lewis and Cornelia johnson chosen for the court . . . The marshals selected from our class were Foster Cashwell, Chief g Carolyn Averitt, jimmy Green, David Sandlin, Kathy Goforth, Mae Murchison, Billy Clark, Cornelia johnson, Ray johnson, Kaye Ed- wards, Frank Stout, Sandy Iuliucci and Joe McCall . . . Kay Taylor, Pam Collins, Glenda Langford, and Ann Hambright were really hustling for the girls' basketball team . . . That was the year, too, that the band got their beautiful new uniforms-Remember how well Nancy Cooke could twirl? . . . The Tri-Hi-Y had a Singing Christmas Tree during Christmas . . . Scholarship and Leadership continued to be greatly exemplified in our class and were acknowledged again on awards night when Foster Cashwell received the Courtesy Cup, Molly Sutherland received the U.S, History Award, Hans Tarpley was awarded the Senior High Scholastic Award, and Mae Murchison was awarded the D.A.R. Good Pilgrim Award . . . Wasn't our junior-Senior, Dedicated To You, beautiful? . . . To insure our having the best Senior Class ever, we elected Billy Clark Student Body President and Clara jones Vice-president, Lloyd Dunn Senior Class president and Kay Lange, Ethel Perry, and Ray johnson class officers for the coming year . . . Then, unbelievably, we were Seniors! . . . With Kathy Goforth as head cheerleader, we had a spirited football season, though somewhat hampered by the large number of accidents to the players . '. . The plans of the Lflfdlllflf were made at the end of our Junior year and were in full force at the beginning of our senior year under the leadership of Mae Murchison . . . Again the beauty of our class was recognized when Charlotte Lewis was crowned Miss F,H.S., and Cornelia Johnson and Marty McDaniel were chosen for the court . . . When we reminisce over our Christmas dance, our Washington trip, our Senior play, and all of the other events of our senior year, nothing is as vivid as the day we marched down the aisle in white caps and gowns to the beat of Pomp and Circumstancen . . . As the years go by, some of the memories will fade, but the lessons and knowledge gained from these ex- periences will be etched deep in our souls to support us down life's highway.
