I 'f P .s ii J-,ay vu- 8 A History of the Class of '31 the early fall of 1927 Fayetteville High School suffered the invasion of a mighty horde of mischievous little imps. This band was 161 in number and was known as Freshman Class. The Freshmen, although they had confidently expected to con- the entire school, soon decided to settle down to fmore or lessj peaceful lives and temporarily all thought of conquest and be as much as possible like the classes of the school. They soon observed that these other classes all had officers, leading lights of the class got together and called a meeting of all Freshmen. meeting resulted in the election of the following officers: Roy Forehand, Pres- Murray Howell, Vice President: Reed Devane, Secretaryg and Kate Bailey, The little Freshmen were also represented -on the athletic field with John and George Kistler on the Football team, and Dorothy Burger and Mildred on the Girls' Field Hockey Team. Then the days grew into weeks and the into months and in a seemingly short while we had reached the first milestone of our journey. After an absence of three months the Freshmen, now known as Sophomores, returned to the school feeling like kings and queens preparing to show the new Freshmen their proper place. The Class soon reorganized with 'Charles Sutton as President: Margaret Kirkpatrick, Vice Presidentg and Roy Forehand, Secretary and Treasurer. This year the Class was represented in the statistics. Nannie Biggs having been chosen Most Musical, and Aileen Deal took the title of F. H. S.'s prettiest. Again, too, the Class was represented in Athletics, William Scott, George Kistler, and Roscoe Sandlin, in Football, and Nannie Biggs, Irene Buckingham, and Mildred Boone, in Basketball. The third year was entered and again the name of the Class was changed. They were now known as Juniors. Only one more year, they thought, and we'll have the world at our feet. As usual, the first big event of the year was the election of officers. Charles Sutton was elected Presidentg Claude Rankin, Vice President 3 Anne Tlllinghast, Secretary, and Rebecca Jackson, Treasurer. When the Seniors elected the marshals it developed that Murray Howell headed the list. Under him were Edna Wheeler, Nannie Biggs, Dorothy Burger, Irene Buckingham, Charles Sutton, and Everett Bryan. This proved to be a big year in Athletics for the Class. In Football the Class was represented by Charles Sutton, Charles Riddle, Earl Riddle, Charles Turlington, William Scott, Rosooe'Sandlin, and George Kistler, in Girls' Basketball by Nannie Biggs, Irene Buckingham, Annette Ward, Mildred Boone, Anne Tillinghast, and Estelle Riddle. Another vacation ended and those members of the Class who had not fallen by the wayside returned to the school, proudly bearing the name of Seniors. At last dignified Seniors! The height of glory had been reached! For their last set of officers the Class chose Murray Howell, President: Julian Metz, Vice Presldentg June Williams, Secretary, and Ronald McNeil, Treasurer. The Glee Club was headed by Edna Wheeler with Elizabeth Crane, Secretary, and Rebecca Jackson, Treasurer. We showed up well in Athletics with Earl Riddle, Captain of the Football team, and Mildred Boone, Captain of the Girls' Basketball team. We find that our Senior year -is a realization of dreams, but nevertheless its hard to realize that we are Seniors and so soon our high school days will be over. After is the spirit of the discourse that counts, and in spite of our mistakes and our we will carry with us through life cherished memories and a lasting appreciation the many good and fine things that have come into our lives during the four of our life in old F.
