Next year they will take their places as the leaders of the school. Most of the juniors are conscious already of their own relationship to the school and the community, and how little time there is to prepare. The juniors have played a big role in our school this year. A- mong other things they played a big part in athletics: supported our school organizationsg and won the Government class Sock l-lop skit. Climax to a big year for the juniors was the junior-Senior Ban'- quet, which they planned as a treat for the seniors . .ff 'ig 'S- C' ,T N sv , , . i L 1. 6 , ,T fi G f' 'Z' W r Q f W ,. Honorable Mention, I956 ootball The 1956 football season got under way with a 32-O victory at Siloam Springs over the hapless Panthers who were only allowed a total of three yards gained during the entire game. It was all Fayetteville after the first offensive play from scrimmage when Billy Whitfield ripped off tackle and went eighteen yards for a touchdown. The Subiaco Trojans came to Harmon Playfield September 2l, and ,. successfully outfought the Dogs 7-6 in the only game Fayetteville was to lose by extra points as john Lewis, extra point kicker deluxe, was ,dim H soon to join the Bulldog forces . In this game the Bulldogs were plagued -Y'-1 Q-- -V, by fumbles, a thorn in their side all season. The following week Fayetteville traveled to Rogers where the Bull- ' dogs tired out the Mountainers in the first half and then went on to win 26-7 . The Bulldog offensive display was highlighted with Terry Forin- lv ger's running. -A Aff , Against Springdale, our arch rival, we fought the red Bulldogs to a - scoreless tie. Neither team could cross the double stripes, although the Fayetteville Dogs were stopped just short several times . A new foe, Catholic High of Little Rock, provided the opposition the following week and Fayetteville showed they were better than the Rock- ets, one of the best teams in the state, to the tune of 14-13. The Bull- dog's scoring punches came on two long passes from jim Shreve, one to Whitfield, and the other to Wade Hahn. Dorsey jones was outstand- ing in the defensive line . The first Fay- etteville score came when john Henbest, a tackle, picked up a blocked punt and ambled for the first touchdown. Bob Hudgens scored the last touchdown on a short plunge. A muddy field at Van Buren slowed up the Bulldog running attack, --V gi W.. and the Pointers passing was too accurate for the Bulldogs who went 5 5 ' down to defeat 14-7. The Bulldogs only touchdown came on a sustained AQ, -'T' drive in the third quarter. - Q -U ' Huntsville came to Fayetteville the following week, and beat our 2 'i-- boys 14-O. The Vikings were rated as one of the best teams in the Quaffefbaffk nation, and proved it to the home town boys in a hard fought game. The Bulldogs put up a valiant fight before losing 26-7 . Tulsa Webster played here December 9 and won over FHS 45-43 in a game carried by the Bulldogs except for a ragged third quarter. . . Joplin and Parkview High of Springfield both beat the Bulldogs in Missouri.
