Jim Ray, T Co-captain All-district C0-captains ,lim Ray and Don Phillips talk it over with Coach Vandergriff, Qirtffhzff Playing strong intersectional foes again last fall, the Fayetteville Bulldogs won five and lost five--not bad against such teams as Subiaco, Tulsa, Will Rogers, and Springfield, Missouri. The Dogs opened the season by upsetting Siloam Springs 7-0. Rain, fumbles, and penalties held the score down. S ringdale also fell before the Bulldog attack I2-6, but Subiaco put a damper on Fayetteville spirits 13-6. llarrison was the third victim 13-6. The Bulldogs quickly scored two touch- downs but bogged down after the first quarter. Will Rogers outscored Fa etteville 40-27 in one of the best games of the season. Bill Brooks made a brilliant 95 yard kickoff return. Fayetteville came within inches of the District One AA crown. With the score 12717 and less than two minutes to play, Van Buren held for downs on the six inc line. Playing the best game of the year Fayetteville beat Springfield I3-12, scoring in the last I0 seconds. lo lin spoiled a perfect homecoming by scoring the winning margin on a late fourtli-quarter drive. Final score 22-19. By beating Rogers 32-6, the Bulldogs got the thirty points coach Vandergriff had been waitin two years for. Tulsa Dame? Webster was played to a stand still for three quarters but Don Phillips' FB finally over-powered the Dogs 32-20.
