Midnight of December 31, 1956 saw the exit of an old and tired year. For many it was a good yearg for Father Ryan High School it was an unfortunate one. Too often 1956 snatched up our faculty members in one way or another, and we can but regret its taking Father Shea. Father Shea served Father Ryan High School in the capacity of principal for eleven years. We re- member his smile and his frown, the favors that he granted and the whip that he cracked. Moreover we can now see the tremendous job that he did and more fully appreciate it. The news of his transfer found no one prepareclg it was a complete surprise. We miss him, and were sorry that he's gone. M Q FATIIER FRANCIS R. SHEA

Tim Mosr REVISREND XYILLIAISI L. .'XDRI.tXN, DD., Hislzop QfNaslziz'1'1le Diocese of Nashville 421 Charlotte Avenue Nashville 3, Tennessee My dear Graduates 2 Our sincere congratulations go out to you for having arrived at one of the great goals of your life. Your parents, your teachers, your pastors and your friends are quite proud of you, and their prayerful wish for you is that the years ahead will prove even more successful. Whether these years will be few or many, God only knows, nor does it matter much when one ponders on your ultimate purpose in life. Holy Church enumerates among her canonized saints and heroes many youthful persons as well as those more mature in years. Your educators have thus far striven to form in you all that is uniquely divine and also all that is unique- ly human. By fusing the two, they hope to have made you a near approach to 'Lanother Christ. Let you now build wisely on this foundation, always remembering that you are a res sacra -a sacred thing, you come from God, you belong to God, God has planned for you a glorious eternal destiny. 'Learn of Me, 'fFollow Me, are His invitation and command. If you have proven yourselves faithful to His VVord and Example, you may confidently expect, on that great day of graduation from earthly life to eternal life, to hear from His own lips that sweetest of all con- gratulations, lYell done, thou good aIId faithful servant. VVILLIAM L. ADRIAN, DD. Bishop of Naslziiille 8

FACULTY N liA'l'IIl5R -Iixiyllis R. llI'I'L'lIL'OCI4 My dear Seniors: This year might be termed one of loss and gain. XK'ith the deaths of Mr. Long Llllll Mr. Henkel, the sehool lost the last two members of its original staff. Only their recording angels will ever know all the wonderful work they did for Father Ryan through their long years of loyal service. Father Shea's transfer to Knoxville was another distinct loss. His twelve years of leadership here were indeed memorable ones. But with the loss there has been gain. This year we mark with joy another group of our alumni to be ordained to the holy priesthood as well as a number of you about to enter the seminary. Our line faculty has led you and the school through yet another year in the schools progress, a year hlled with knowledge, activity, and above all Gods grace. May God bless you always, F.x'r1niR jmnss R. Hrrcueoek f27'1iI1L'lij7Gl I0
