You need three quarts a day. Plan your trip to provide daily replenishment and take a water purifier along. 2. Food. Dehydrated rations provide nutritious, satisfying meals with a minimum of bulk weight. Plan at least two hot meals per day. 3. Heat. Learn and practice how to build and start an outdoor fire. And remember, several small fires provide more heat than one large one. 4. Shelter. Find out how to build a snow cave, lean-to shelter and log hut, even though you plan to carry your own tent. 5. Medical equipment. Always pack a complete first aid kit tailored to fit your own experience and size of your party. 6. Clothing. Travel light, of course - but not at the expense of sacrificing adequate and K roper protective clothing. 7. Insurance. Do your omework by planning your trip -step by step-in advance. And always leave a route map and estimated time of return with a responsible party. 8. Positive mental attitude. Don ' t panic. Stay put after dark. And you can be quite certain, if you have provided for the first seven essentials above, you will survive most emergencies. '  £ URF ' Q UP ««- •■ 4 B ie waves are hot the absen- opez are many. Live. from Jonathan Livingston Seagull ' erybody Has A Dream Billy Joel While in these days of quiet desperation As I wander through the world in which I live search everywhere for some new inspiration But it ' s more than cold reality can give If I need a cause for celebration Or a comfort I can use to ease my mind rely on my imagination And I dream of an imaginary time know that everybody has a dream Everybody has a dream And this is my dream, my own Just to be at home And to be all alone . . .with you If I believe in all the words I ' m saying And if a word from you can bring a better day Then all I have are these games that I ' ve been playing To keep my hope from crumbling away So let me lie and let me go on sleeping And I will lose myself in palaces of sand And all the fantasies that I have been keeping Will make the empty house easier to stand I know that everybody has a dream Everybody has a dream And this is my dream, my own Just to be at home And to be all alone . . .with you.
