FOREWORD In this year of Our Lord, 1961, the VERITAS profters its readers a challenge and a promise. To you who have felt the beckoning of a desperately urgent era and have thrilled to the prospect of an ever- expanding world, this annual presents a yet more difficult trial and a hope of greater attainments. To keep abreast of our fast-paced society demands our constant effort. To preserve our Catholic faith requires a no less constant struggie at the price of even greater personal hardship. It is the challenge of a lifetime and every aspect deserves thorough prepara- tion and complete execution. Education is the beginning of any campaign and plays a vital role in determining the outcome. A Catholic education, then, is an immeasurably valuable ally in the battle to hold fast to fervent Catholicity. It is, of course, no guarantee of success for application of principles learned is no easy matter; however, with Catholic founda- tions behind us it is safer to assume that the patterns we follow will be reliable and salutary to Our ultimate goals. Beyond the horizon may very well lie the fulfillment of many scientific expectations-other life, greater knowledge of our own; new modes of communication and transportation, interplanetary travel. But beyond these, past the farthest reaches of the universe, lies the greatest achievement-the supreme fulfillment. There begins Paradise. That is the promise to deserve; that is the reward of a challenge met and mastered. 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION SENIORS ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS ERITAS UNDERCLASSMEN ADVERTISEMENTS
