The eyes and ears of the world turned to the apostolic pilgrim. He came to them as the humblest among them. But his words turned him into a giant. He came to the United Nations to join the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Caesar in the grand quest - a lasting true peace - a peace that springs from the soul of mankind. No more war, War never again! Pope Paul VI addresses the United Nations, October 4, 1965. 4 His Excellency, Most Reverend Thomas A. Donellcm Bishop of Ogdensburg His Excellency, Thomas A. Donellan replied to a student body petition to him to keep Father Leo Memorial High School open . . ., Please extend to the other students my sincere regrets at the decision to close Father Leo Memorial High School. Its influence has been far greater than its size . . . Rt. Rev. Msgr. Arthur Leary Rev. Williom LoVollee Diocesan Superintendent of Education Assistant Diocesan Superintendent of Education N 5 Q 1, ,. REV. ANTHONY F. MOORE, OFM There was a good man of the priest' vocation, A poor village priest of true conse- cration, But he was rich in holy thought and work. Learned he was, in the truest sense of a clerk Who meant Christ's gospel faithfully to preach And truly his parishioners to teach . Our Pastor He was a shepherd, and not a mercenary And though himself a man of strict vocation He was not harsh to weak souls in temptation Not overbearing nor haughty in his speech But wise and kind in all he tried to teach. By good example and just words to turn Sinners to heaven was his whole concern! - Chaucer ADMINISTRATION 7 A pursuit of learning for the whole student-body and soul-channelled through the New York Regents and Ogdensburg Di o c e s a n Regula- tions, has been carefully and zeal- ously administered by the Alle- gany Franciscan Friars and Sis- ters. FATHER LEO MEMORIAL SCHOOL Second Vatican Council on October 28, 1965, re- newed and p r o m u l g a t e d the Declaration on Christian Education which states that Catholic education institutions should be established to provide for awide variety of needs. The Council further proclaims the right of the Church freely to establish and to conduct schools of every type and leve1 . ST. Jane Nortz Our Jtmior year symbolizes one very important event for us. We have finally earned the symbol of achievement, a class ring. Our past years have been important in that they have left us with cotmtless memories which are forgotten and re- newed, but the living proof of eleven years of loyalty to Fa- ther Leo Memorial School is in the gold ring with the blue stone. We justly pride ourselves not in the ring itself but the hard work and perseverance on the part of the students and teachers who merited it for us. LATIN II Sister M. FIFE AND DRUM CORPS OnJune 20, 1962, Mother M. Jeannette, OSF, Principal of Father Leo Memorial School, Croghan, asked if the St. Stephen's Council 2175, Knights of Columbus, would begin a project to raise money to form a band for the school. Avote was taken and all were in favor. After the Cotmcil raised the money, a Fife and Drum Corps was formed for the school, under the direction of Brother Knight FrankDavis, who is still serving as instructor of the band. Father Reginald Baliman, OFM, pastor of St. Stephen's Church, startedinstructions on the fifes and drums for the boys and girls and de- serves much credit in getting the band off the ground. The Corps which is still sponsoredby the St. Stephen's Council, 2175, marches in the sum- mertime with the Croghan Volunteer Fire Department in all parades in the local area. The Corps, together with the Fire Department, has won prizes totaling over 51500.
