Bully was a little white plaster doll with big staring eyes and a dreamy smile. The girls have been gone for hours. What a jolly time they have. There they come now from school. My! How they chatter. There must be half a dozen of them. I am sure I heard lVIary's voice. Isn't that awful! Just think of writing Latin poetry! I am scared to death, said Mary in an excited voice. The door burst open and in came five girls who sat on the hed and began eagerly talking. 'LI am so glad I don't take- Latin, said Margaret, English is bad enoughf' You lucky girlf' '50 Jane, don't you think the Mardigras party is going to be fun? What are you going to wear. . I don't know. I wrote Muzzy May to send me a costume. If it doesnlt come, I'll just die. 4'What are you going to wear, Mary?'7 'Tm not going to tell, but Iive got mine all fixed. , 4There's the dinner bell, come on. I hope I get a letterf' 4'Another party tonight, thought Buffy. uThey will all be in here dressing. It will be fun watching them. How I wish I could go and see it all. Even Elizabeth has forgotten me. She scarcely ever speaks to me now. She has so many other things to think about. There go the girls down stairs. Study bell must have rung. Queer! I didn't hear it. This is Tuesday, at least I think I heard Elizabeth say it was. I can't keep the time straight? Elizabeth and ,lane just came in, and got their hats, coats and rubbers to go walking. I wish they would hurry back. Everything is so quiet with them all gone. I think I'll take a nap. Buffy awakened suddenly. '4Gracious! Itis quite dark. What time is it? Oh! Everybody must be at supper. I slept a long time. They will soon be coming to dress for the party. There is ,lane now. What funny costumes! Kenchoo! The powder is about to strangle me. I wonder is they heard me sneeze. No one noticed. What are they saying? HPull it a little this way, dear, that's better. Jane I think your costume is as cunning as it can be and it came just in time, wasn't that lucky? 'LOh! Elizabeth do I look all right? I am so excited and so happyf' 'You look precious. Do run and help Margaret. Here take her this rouge, it's hers. HMay I borrow some of your Bandaline? said a voice from the doorway. HHelp yourself, Kat. I'll be back in a minutef, Buzzzzzzzzzz Come on Mary and Jane, I am gone. That's nicef, said Buffy, now quite alone. They left the door open so l can hear the music, and their voices. How tired they will be when they come back. I bet there will be lots of hair that isn't untagled tonight. It was just like I knew it would be, they have gone to bed and straight to sleep with little noise, to jump up in the morning ready for work.
