'The high standard, which has been attained by all, from the Seniors to the Sub-Freshmen. Basket-ball, which is to the heart of a girl what foot-ball is to that of a boy, has beezl played according to the uPocket System, with great success. The team, this season, has been marked by its smoothness of action and team-work, due to good training and system, and on the 24-th of October, when in the game with Waynesville High School, the crucial test of the team's ability came, it was not found lacking. ln spite of an indoor court, a one-line game, and boy's rules, the end of the game found the score fifteen to thirteen in favor of Waynesv- ville. The next game scheduled, was played November 12th on the Fassifern court with Ashe- ville High School. It was characterized by good sportsmanship and clean playing, the score being seventeen to four in favor of Fassifern. The sub-team, not to be outdone by the varsity, played the Asheville High Schoolls second team during the intermission, and won with a score of seven to six. It has been a keen disappointment to the members of the varsity and su-team that the Hui has rendered incomplete the schedule of games. Base-ball, in spite of the shrieks of fear heard any Monday or Wednesday on the base-ball field, has become one of the most popular forms of athletics, and it is safe to prophesy a brilliant future of heavy hitting and swift balls for the next season. Heretofore, the tennis tournament has taken place some time in the fall. This year it was put off until February, thus giving time to practice and improvement of technique. As a result, the playing in the tournament, which is now going on, is harder and above the usual standard. The players are strong both in singles and doubles. It is certain that in the years to come the tennis players will do justice not only to themselves, but to the school. The athletic season culminates on Field Day when Lavenders and Whites compete in sports and dancing. As a reward, the winneing side is to receive the shield and to be the guest of honor at the banquet given by its opponent. This terminates the athletics for the year. M. Birdsey, '21
