SCHOOL HISTORY Our Alma lVlater opened her doors for the first time to a limited number of fifteen girls in October, 1907 in Lincolnton, N. C. However, not for long was the registration to be so small, every year the number was steadily increased and soon it became necessary to have larger buildings. ln October, 1914, Fassifern moved to Hendersonville, its present site. Dur- ing its first year there sixty pupils were enrolled, 1Vlcl3ee Hall, has been erected, and a cottage rented for the teachers. As th enrollment of Fassifern has been growing steadily, a broader field of work has become necessary, so in 1915 the Spanish Department took its place in our regular curriculum. The following year, a course in home economics was in- stalled, and in 1918 the business course was begun. In the same year, the Art Departmen was thrown open to the entire student body, whereas heretofore only those taking a special course in art received th advantages of this department. N. Perhaps in a magic mirror she Old memories doth regaing Perhaps doth waving alders see And heather in the rain. What wanteth happy Fassifern To make her happier? What distant thing can she discern Which we might give to her? Is it a spray of alder leaves Upon her dress to wear? Is it a sprig of heather bloom To put into her hair? Ah no! It is a Cairn-gorm If truth it must be knowng The royal stone, the cairn-gorm, She yearneth for alone. We yield the precious cairn-gorm All its imputed worthg We know there are no jewels Surpassing it on earth. But, dear, we have no cairn-gorms, We are too poor for themg So we are fain to offer you A humbler gem.
