The doors of FHS shut behind us as we take on the challenges and responsibilities of the adult world. We go forth into the world confident that our years here have prepared us well. This year has been filled with a great many accomplishments by the graduating class, both on the sports field and in the classroom. Athletically, seniors have led the way to a winning season in every sport. On the academic side of the coin, eight seniors were selected to participate in the Century III competition. Four members of the senior class enrolled in a college calculus course on the local Penn State campus. These student leaders of today are the future doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers, teachers, and businessmen who will shape tomorrow's world. Although we will all go our separate ways in the years to come, we will always be bound together by the memories of the years we have shared here. CWhat did you enjoy most about your senior year? The festivities began at 7:45 with the Grand March. All of the beautifully dressed couples proceeded to the E. J. McCluskey gymnasium for picture taking. Then at 9 o’clock off we went heading for our first out-of-school prom, which was held at the Oak Tree Country Club. Rolaunda Townsend A Carl Lampkins After arriving at the country club, we were entertained by the live band, “Civil Defense.” At midnight a buffet was served by the Oak Tree Country Club, following which a second live band, “Insane,” entertained for the remainder of the night. Every student has at least one particular faculty member who has influenced his life, whether it be an elementary teacher, an academic instructor, a special supervisor, or a varsity coach. Not only do staff members impart to us their knowledge about their particular subjects, they also teach us valuable lessons about the adult world. We would like to express our sincere thanks to each faculty member for everything each one has done for us through the years. C A. Our class has contributed a great deal to this school, playing major roles in every sport and acquiring honors in every academic subject. Nineteen hundred eighty-seven has given new dimension to the material. Acid and bleach have changed the way teens dress today. Jeans once gave the impression of a cowboy or a mud-covered little kid — but no more! Dresses, skirts, and even dress pumps made of denim are just as popular as the pants. There are hats, jackets, shirts, earrings, and socks to fit any denim-lover’s fancy. The yearbook staff would like to thank our junior models, Ron Brown. David Newby, Alyssa Wilson, Shelly Newlan, Paula Fratilla, Kimberly Bacon, Ro-launda Townsend, Tamara Me Swain, and Rhonda Zaborowski for modeling their up-to-date-fashion outfits. If bleached or acid washed jeans are still plain to you, add a splash of color! Red, blue, yellow, grey, pink, purple, and green are just a few from which to choose. Some jeans are even white on the bottom and blue on the top. Others have grey on one leg and black on the other. Still not convinced? How about styles? Straight legs, baggies, ankle pants, mini skirts, super-long skirts, cocktail dresses, sweat shirts, and shorts are all available in denim. This was the year we reached the sixteenth birthday, and finally each of us had an opportunity to get a driver's license. We were permitted to attend the prom, and we became more active in sports and other extracurricular activities. There was a new atmosphere. We felt that the upperclassmen accepted us — a little bit more. Although we still didn't share all the privileges of the upperclassmen, it was a new experience no longer being the youngest in the high school. We ended our sophomore year knowing that the best is yet to come. We're half way through our years at FHS. and we re going to make the best of the time we have left. The '87-88 season started when the team competed well in a tournament before section play. Throughout the season, there were many tournaments, but the team could not seem to get it together. Finally, the last tournament of the season, the girls got their stuff together and came home with a first-place trophy from Conneaut Lake. They ended section play with an undefeated season. Then it was off to the WPIAL Championships. The team traveled to Robert Morris College for the Championship. They easily defeated New Wilmington in the semifinals, and in the finals they defeated Elderton. Now, the last step — the State Championship! At Shippensburg University, the girls started off weak but ended very strong. It was Richland in the finals, who earlier in the day. had defeated the steelers. It was the 3rd game, and Farrell was down 10-2. Marsha Holden started the comeback by scoring the 3rd and 4th points. It's big, bold, bright, and beneficial. The colors give an electric feeling of spirit as you enter the room. The students and staff are becoming more physically and mentally alert with the continued use of the weight room. The equipment in the weight room was funded by the Education Consolidation Improvement Act (ECLA), Chapter 2, for the benefit of the students. This fund is a Federal Grant based on the student needs of the district. If our district did not utilize the money alloted, we would forfeit the grant. The equipment was purchased by two local companies — the freeweights from The Pyramid Company in Brookfield, Pennsylvania. and the resistance weights from The Vienna Company in Sharon, Pennsylvania. The vendors worked together to coordinate No Pain, No Gain the blue equipment and the gold-bench covers. The equipment was selected by committee members John Sava. Charles Branca, Harriet Morrison, and Charles Montgomery. The committee's selection was approved by the Farrell Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Board Athletic Committee chaired by Mrs. Rose Marie Branca. Mr. Russell Phillips was in charge of securing the funding from ECIA. All students in our district are entitled to use the weight room facilities. Weight room hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Summer hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Wednesday, and Friday. In general, students were divided according to grade level in classes, in assembly seating, by locker location, and at cafeteria tables. By participating in activities, students opted to work together to break through the barriers that separated the classes. Underclassmen benefited from the experiences of the upperclassmen, while contributing their own fresh, new ideas. The excellent performances of the band, chorus, cheerleaders, and Shakespeare Club were just a few examples of what we accomplished when we worked together as members of classes, clubs, and organizations.
