'pansiell Septan 'rtytyA ScAaol The inside covers, front and back, illustrate the newly planned, modernly equipped Farrell Senior High School. The new Farrell Senior High School will occupy the site immediately adjacent to the existing High School, which has been used as the football practice field. The new building will adjoin the existing by means of a glass enclosed footbridge from the second floor. The cafeteria and kitchen facilities were incorporated immediately adjacent to this area, which make them equally accessible from either building. The new structure will contain every modern facility incorporated in high schools today. Included will be a 1200 seat auditorium immediately adjacent to the main entrance, facilitating convenient access. The rear of the auditorium can be divided into two large areas seating approximately 350 students for large group instruction. This eliminated the need of building separate rooms for this purpose. The areas can be completely separated from each other as well as from the main body of the auditorium by means of large movable coil walls. When not in use, these same walls, which operate electronically, can be completely hidden from public view. Also included in conjunction with the auditorium is the Music Department. This department is to be located near the stage area for ease of access for

both instruments and choral groups. Located near the main entrance across from the auditorium, will be the Administrative Facilities. Included will be all Administrative Offices as well as the Health Suite. Since Farrell's present spectator gymnasium is obviously adequate, it was not deemed necessary to duplicate this facility. A much smaller gym, however, was provided which can be divided in half for class use and which contains limited folding bleacher seating for junior high basketball spectators. Immediately adjacent to the gymnasium are the locker rooms which separate the new gym from the swimming pool. The pool will be regulation Olympic size with both one and three meter diving boards. This area will also contain a spectator area since swimming will probably become a competition sport in the very near future. The class rooms will be housed in a two story element, somewhat separated from the aforementioned areas, by means of a glass enclosed corridor adjacent to an interior courtyard. Included will be 11 regular classrooms, two double classrooms, one language lab and two instructional planning centers. The Science Department will contain an Earth and Space Lab, two Biology Labs, one Chemistry Lab, one Physics Lab and two Student Project Rooms. A large area has been provided for the Art Department, which will also be housed in this area. Immediately adjacent to the class-rooms is the Library Area, which includes the Main Library and adjoining facilities, a library classroom, seminar rooms and the Planetarium which seats sixty students. Also adjacent to the classrooms is the Shop Area, which is situated at an intermediate level. Five shops and the Mechanical Dr awing Room are housed in this area. The building's interior will be basically exposed brick and ceramic tile with glass being incorporated in the connecting corridors. Some wood paneling was used, predominately in the auditorium and cafeteria areas. Features such as display and locker areas were incorporated which will not only serve functionally, but will enhance the building's interior. The contemporary design of the exterior will be complimented by dark brown brick contrasted with white brick and natural rubble stone work. Gray glass was incorporated basically for its value in sun and heat control.
