Scardina Chapter of the National Honor Society. The organization was initiated at Farrell Senior High School in 1960 at the request of Mr. Angelo M. Grande, principal, and Mr. Louis Morocco, guidance coordinator. Main objectives of the newly formed club are: to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service to the school and community, to promote worthy leadership and to encourage the development of students in the local school district. An admission to membership in the Society is granted to each student by a board of six faculty members who are aided in their selection by the recommendations of their fellow teachers. Standards used to determine membership are scholarship, service to the school, leadership and general character. All students regardless of their respective classes, must maintain an average of the letter grade B or better every six weeks to be a member of the Society. The faculty board which governs the Society includes: Miss Anne Gojdics, Miss Olga Gojdics, Miss Helen Grimes, Mr. Edward Lindway, Mr. Alfred Malatesta, Mr. Joseph Nestich, and Mr. Louis Morocco. The new National Honor Society at our school has been named by the honor students of this year’s class and faculty in memory of the late Miss Mary Veronica Scardina, long an educator in the Farrell Area School District. Held in the highest esteem by her fellow educators and by the many pupils she taught over the years, Parrell Senior High School is proud and happy that this new Society is named in memory of the late Miss Mary V. Scardina. Membership in this Society is the highest honor a Farrell High School student can attain. 4
