-EUMMEHEIAL DEPAHTME T- The primary objectives of the Commercial Department are to prepare the student to get a job, to hold it efficiently, and to win promotions to higher and better paid positions. Keeping this in mind, the Business Education Department endeavors to offer courses which contribute toward these objectives. The Commercial Department believes, however, that technical knowledge in a particular skill is not all that is required for business occupational success. lf success and advancement to higher positions are to be achieved, it is necessary to have occupational intelligence . The quality traits of initiative, tact, cooperation, ability to get along with people, and willingness to follow instructions are de- veloped. The students are encouraged to think, to reason, and to criticize constructively along business lines. The Commercial Department tries to create a feeling of em- ployee loyalty, and an appreciation of the trust placed on an employee. The faculty of the Business Education Department con- sists of Mrs. Mary Iones, Miss Geraldine Rock, Mr. Paul Matuscak, and its chairman, Miss Olga Gojdics. These competent teachers show not only the technical points of business, but also give the students practice in each of the fields. Students taking the course, Work in the office of the school, at the switchboard, and have an office practice class where they can use all of the modern equipment in the offices of today. What the students of our Commercial Department are learning today, will be the strong basis of our business wcrld of tomorrow. BOOKKEEPIN G I, II Mr. Paul Matuscak B.S. Bus. Admin. Youngstown University -MUSIE DEPAHTME T- The Music Department of Farrell High School plays an important role in the lives of its members. The objectives of this department are to train students who wish to make a career of music, as well as to provide educational and enjoyable experiences for participating students. Mr. Samuel Campagna, the head of the Music Depart- ment, is the director of the A Capella Choir which is one of the two organizations in the Music Department. The choir is active throughout the school year, participating in several annual programs. Their programs include the Spring Concert, the Farrell Chamber of Commerce Ban- quet, a choir trip to a nearby high school, and the Wolves' Club Scholarship Minstrel. Providing the musical backs ground for the bi-annual Christmas Pageant completes the busy schedule of the choir. The Farrell High School Band, directed by james V. Scanga, is the other important organization of the music department. The band schedule is never empty as the members participate in football and basketball games as well as in their regular concerts. During football season they prepare and perform half-time shows for the football games. They also perform at each home game during bas- ketball season and at the pep rallies. Annually they pre- sent a spring concert, and appear with the choir at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet. They also contribute their services to the community by participating in the Hallo- ween, Armistice Day, and Memorial Day parades. The music department gives much musical training to serious minded music students and still offers opportuni- ties for all high school students to participate in the music appreciation program.
