Honored On April 27, 1919, at a sumptuous banquet held in the Sewing Room of the Home Economies Department, the Board of Education and Mr. John Hetra, Superintendent of the Farrell Public Schools, honored ten Farrell school employees who have served the district for twenty-five years or more. After the banquet, the honored guests and all of their school associates enjoyed a party in the auditorium. As the evening came to a close, a lovely luncheon was served to all of the guests in the school cafeteria. During the program, the Farrell Board of Education through its president, Mr. Anthony Tortorete, presented honor awards to Miss Alice Nicolls, director of elementary education, Mr. George J. Wetherstein, secretary to the Board of Education, Miss Celia Burns, school nurse, Mrs. Elizabeth Broderick, Mrs. Helen Somogyi Davis, Miss Florence B. Donlin, Mrs. Hazel Adams McCreary, Mrs. Hannah Lucas, Miss Sarah Cooley, and Miss Esther A. B. Zentz, teachers. The Farrell Parent-Teachers Association, represented by its president, Mrs. Frank Sherwood, presented the honored guests with silver service pins. Dr. Charles R. Cheeks, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, gave the invocation; Mr. Anthony Tortorete, Mr. John Hetra, Miss Margaret Reese, president of the Farrell Teachers Association, and Mrs. Chester Hogue, president of the Farrell Music Guild, gave short speeches. Miss Alice Nicolls responded for the honored guests. Mrs. Julia Wallace Jenkins, who composed “Eulogy” for the occasion, closed the program by reciting the poem in tribute to the honored guests. The members of the committee in charge of the successful affair were Miss Margaret Reese, Miss Ellen Fritchman, Mrs. Agnes Wheeler Magargee, Mrs. Amy Marks, Miss Olga Gojdics and Miss Leo la Phipps. For the first time in the history of the school, the Farrell School District honored its twenty-five year service employees.
