Class History of 1949 We, the Class of 1949, started our gay, exciting life in Farrell Senior High School in September, 1945. We were Freshmen then, when everything seemed new and different to us. However, it wasn’t long before we became accustomed to senior high school. Within less than a month’s time, under the direction of Mr. Stephan Marin, we elected our class officers, Alfred Paulekas, president; Michael Sabo, vice-president; and Theresa Sed, secretary. We sponsored two dances that year, a Fall Festival and a Spring Frolic. While still Freshmen, many members of our class became active in the band, the chorus, and in all fields of sports that the school had to offer. All too soon, our first year of high school came to an end, and we looked forward to a successful Sophomore year. In September, 1946, we returned to school full of spirit. As Sophomores, under the guidance of our class advisor, Miss Margaret Roux, we elected our class officers: Samuel Nicastro, president; Alfred Paulekas, vice-president; and Theresa Sed, secretary. This year, just as before, we took part in all extra-curricular activities existing in the school. We sold play tickets, attended all sports events, and supported all the clubs in which we were enrolled. To terminate this year, we held a Spring Frolic with the Freshman Class. The gym was gaily decorated for this affair. Each class had nearly a perfect attendance. Soon our Junior year came. Since we all knew the importance of this year, we tried our best to make it successful. With our class advisor, Mrs. Julia Wallace Jenkins, we elected our officers: Walter Kaletka, president; Joseph Mirizio, vice-president; and Theresa Sed, secretary. To attend the Senior Homecoming Queen, we chose Mildred Dudash. At last, time came for the biggest and best dance of the year—the Junior-Senior Prom. Under the supervision of Mr. Paul Komar and with much enthusiasm on the part of every member of the class, we turned the gymnasium into an elaborate setting resembling a flower garden. All our efforts brought results, for the prom was a highly successful social event. Then came the long awaited senior year. Under the direction of our class advisor, Miss Esther Zentz, we were destined to make this, our last year, a year long to be remembered. We elected Lee Pritz, class president; Joseph Yazvac, vice-president; and Theresa Sed, secretary. We sponsored our first dance, ‘‘The Homecoming Dance,” with Doris Miles, reigning queen, and Shirley Bastide and Phyllis Kretchek her attendants. It was a colorful event as football Co-captains Samuel Nicastro and George Keryan crowned the queen at the beginning of the Farrell-Rochester football game. At our second class meeting, we chose “Progressive Always,” for our class motto; Royal Blue and Gray, for our class colors; and the Yellow Rose, for our class flower. We soon began to publish the Reflector. Later we ordered our calling cards, memory books, and invitations. As the year began to end, we were guests of the Juniors at the Junior-Senior Prom. On May 23, we held our Class Breakfast and the Farewell Assembly after which we left for a thrill packed Class Day, at Idora Park. On May 29, we donned our caps and gowns to attend Baccalaureate Services. On June 1, we wore our caps and gowns for the last time as we attended our Commencement Exercises. We left our dear Alma Mater to go into a new and different world of tomorrow. May God be with us! Theresa Sed
