Class History Since 1940, when we were Freshmen, we always looked forward to the day when we would become Seniors. That day has come, for it is now the year 1944 and we have just graduated, bringing to a close the most memorable years of our life. We were an active group in our Freshman year, for we participated in all events that were open to us. There were assemblies, paper drives to purchase our movie projector, football and basketball games, the Recognition Day Program, and the annual Prom. We also published for the first time the successful Ink Spot. Under the supervision of Miss Edna Short, now a captain in the Women's Army Corps, we organized and elected our class officers. Richard Trombacco was elected president, James Russo, vice presidentg and Noreen Komar, secretary. The grand climax was our commencement pageant, Youth Stands Watch, which was written by members of our class. When the school year 1941-42 came, we were officially proclaimed Sophomores. No longer were we the gay and carefree students of the junior high school-we were now the shy underclassmen of the senior high school, determined more than ever to make a place for ourselves in this glorious institution. We soon became accustomed to the various adjustments, to the new pattern of schooling, and our own choice of curriculum. We were issued lockers of our own. New and graver responsibilities were placed upon our shoulders. With the loyalty of our own fellow classmen and the personal assurance of the Juniors and the Seniors, we followed all rules explicitly. Miss Anne Gojdics served as our class advisor. Joseph Pratt was our class president, Russell Williams, vice president, and Gwendolyn Esaias, secretary. During the 1942-43 school year, we were Juniors! This proved to be a more eventful and exciting year. With the able cooperation of our class advisor, Miss Julia S. Wallace, and our class officers: James Kaikis, James Ru-sso, and June Shaffer, we enjoyed more activities and joined more organizations. We welcomed the All- State Band to our school and honored them with a tour of the building and a get- acquainted party. Our pep sessions became livelier with the increasing accomplish- ments of our football and basketball teams which were awarded high honors. At the close of the Junior year, we were rushed into a bevy of activities. We very proudly feted the Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Prom and made their last social event a memorable one. At the Farewell Assembly, our class president ac- cepted the cap and gown from the Senior Class President, Robert Trombacco. We vowed at that time to uphold forever the ideals of our school. Our honor students formed the Honor Guard and the Honor Arch at the Baccalaureate and the Commence- ment exercises, in tribute to the departing Seniors. At last 1943-44, the long awaited Senior Year! How eagerly we had approached this year and yet, as the days went by, our thoughts of leaving became more regret- ful. The cloud of war figured prominently, as never before, this year affecting not only the student body but also the members of our faculty. A whirlpool of activities sprang up-the Homecoming Dance, the Mid-Year Prom honoring those boys leaving for service before the second semester, war loan drives, scrap drives, assemblies, and the District Chorus. Our wrestling team and our high school band held the limelight this year. Miss Esther Zentz was our class advisor. James Kaikis, Jerry Tallarico, and June Shaffer served as our class officers, president, vice president, and secretary. respectively. Our Senior year was soon drawing to an end. On May 22, 1944, we received our yearbook, The Reflector, which set a new record in sales never reached previously. lNe were then fetcd by the Junior Class at the annual Prom. On Class Day, we impressively bade farewell to our beloved Alma Mater. Solemnly attired in our Caps and Gowns, symbolic of the graduating class, we attended the Baccalaureate services on May 21, 1944 and the Commencement Exercises on May 23, 1944. We proudly accepted our diplomas with due honor and went forth in the world prepared to serve our Country.
