Often a ship's Log becomes History as time passes and this on the spot record remains. The Farragut Log for 1958 is no exception. Much History is recorded in this book. This year we won our second Blue Football Championship and our third cham- pionship in two years. The Admirals breezed through the schedule with only one tie to mar a perfect record, last year -- following it with a Baseball win. This year it was six wins without a loss or tie until we tied Lindblom in the first round of the playoffs. Lindblom went on, but we share in Lindblom's honors, reaching a new height for Farragut. This year, too, finds the Log taking note of the retire- ment of two of our experienced navigators - Mr. Protts- man, Assistant Principal, and Mr. Stevenson, Log Sponsor, each with a quarter century to his credit. They helped make this school. They represent the spirit of this school, and I have asked them to show you through the Farragut High School. Let's follow them as the Good Ship Farragut stands to for inspection. y f5l if WM. E. McBRIDE Executive Officer 2 x fy ' its PF' ggie,-.2 aa. . fs? This is where Mr. Prottsmon looks after the many duties that fall to his lot as Assistant Principal. Farragut could not function smoothly as a high school without a capable person to take care of the varied responsibilities of this office. STEWART, WILLANNA Printing The Gruduoiion Program The Honor Society is an honor all students try to achieve. Only those with an E average qualify. If a student remains in the Honor Society for four years, he is inducted into the National Honor Society. This is the highest and most honored position a person can have. There are four Honor Society groups. Fresh- man, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. Try to make all four. I doubt if you've actually ever seen a football player cry when denied victory, or heard the singing and laughing of a victorious bus trip home, or heard the bark of the quarterback's signals, or felt the feeling you get when breaking out o fa huddle. You couldn't really appreciate then the feeling one gets out of the work put in and the victory recognition re- ceived. This and much more represent that which has gone into the success of the football teams, your championship team. This is one of the finest teams in Chicago, its record proves that. A team, which was composed of unselfish members who all worked for the good of the team. It must be remembered that it is not the individual that scores, it's the team, it's not the team that wins, it's the school. So to you, the school, we present this year's championship team which was one of the Cinderella teams of Chicago and now a tradition at Farragut. To quote a leading Chicago newspaper, lt must be a new era: po io, vaccine, Sputnik, and now a respected Farragut football team. A School Council is a valuable asset in any school. lt is an opportunity for students to get together to discuss various problems dealing with school life and to try to find solutions to these problems. It is also a democratic opportunity for students to work with the faculty and administration toward the betterment of the school. The Farragut School Council is made up of elected delegates from each semester. In addition there are three teachers who are members as well as sponsors. These delegates represent their class in making decisions on important issues that are discussed. An Executive Board consisting of the officers and a representative from each semester makes important plans and guides the activities of the group. Nine committees carry on the work of the council. SCROLL Would you like to be a reporter for a large newspaper someday? lf so, working on the Scroll would provide plenty of background and experience for you. The Scroll is the official bi-weekly newspaper of our school and is edited and published by the students. lt consists of 4 pages and is like a regular newspaper with its newspaper style print, banners, and photographs.
