LETTERS EHUM TEACHERS IIN LEAVE The latest news Hash is thatheighty Waacs are to move in next door to us. Hope Lt. Payne is among them. Several of the boys from Farragut still find time to drop me a line now and then: Vic Buresh is at Great Lakes, and he tells that Tony Ruth was there just ahead of him. Ed Michal also wrote that he was headed that way, and that Malek was already in blue. Your ser- vice flag will probably have to have an exten- sion sewed on to accommodate all the stars. Lt. James J. Doheny ' Technical Command Edgewood Arsenal, Md. I am now working in the AAATC classification center where much aptitude testing and inter- viewing is being done. I wondered where the fellows had been to school, certainly not at Farragut. Arnold E. Mach Hq. Btry. AAATC Ft. Bliss, Tex. We are constantly on the move. Closer and closer to Berlin, I hope. In my special branch of service it is very difficult to communicate even with my home. For the first time in two months my mail caught up with me here. Your letter of October was delivered December lfth. Ask Miss Duda to say Nazdar from Africa! to all my classes. Jerry G. Mican Middle East Good luck and much success during l944- hope it is the victory year so that we can all get back to our jobs soon. Frank Balthis Camp Adair, Oregon Little did I realize that I could miss such a lugubrious group of pedagogues, but it has happened! I even miss such famous artisans as Geo. Peacock, Les Cook, Joe Blow Miller and Ed Paschke and that is too much! When your job gets a little monotonous fof course it never doeslj and you are tired because of lack of sleep from the night before, just think of Pvt. 5th class Ward perspiring in the Flor- ida sun, taking P.T. exercises for an hour and a half followed by a tough obstacle course where you have to subject your faithful, peace- loving carcass to a merciless beating. Your pesty, chesty, Pvt. Sylvan Wal-d When I talked to the band in 418, it was neces- sary to force my voice, andithis constant expe- rience has stood me in good stead. I can really bark out the commands necessary in drilling. I spent the holidays organizing entertainment for the men in the regiment. I teach music fundamentals and also conduct the band re- hearsals. Marcel Ackerman Captain George A. Von Bremer has been in England for the past 19 months where he has met many celebrities. One of his many duties is to watch the landings of our planes as they come back from missions over Germany. Lt. E. E. Paschke is finishing training in New York on J une 23. He starts a week fur- lough on June 24, and then expects to take up duties in Washington, D. C. These towns are mining towns. The moun- tains have been cut away to make living room. It seems as though someone just threw homes against the mountain and there they stick. Be- cause of the steep ascent, there are no mail deliveries. Everyone has to go to the post office to get mail. When you ride to your home the car is either in lst or 2nd because of the steep hills. I was frightened at first, but now it's every day stuff. Belle Greenbaum Page
