IIISTIIBY 0F THE CLASS 0F 1947 In l935, only twelve short years ago, Lydia Harvey, E. S. Bevins, Frank Russell, Margaret Watt, and Sammie Tillery gathered at Farragut Grammar School to begin their education under the motherly care of Miss Elsie Llewellyn. They soon learned their ABC's and were anticipating the second grade. Mrs. Thelma Iohnson made them feel at home in her room, where they were joined by Billy Ioe Ward from Farragut. They soon leamed many new things in school and felt they were ready and well prepared for promotion. With no gain in members in the third grade, Miss Margaret Smith pushed them on to the fifth grade. Miss Beulah Starkey heard their rap and took them in. Here Earl Smith from Bearden joined the group. Arriving at the sixth grade they found Mi ss Leota Bevins waiting for them. She helped them over the bumps and prepared them to enter junior high school. At this time Mary Ellen Beeler become a member of the group. Thrilled with their advancement, they realized that they must work much harded to reach their goal, graduation from high school. Mrs. Irene Reynolds and Mr Shivers were their spon- sors. After much hard studying, they were promoted to the eighth grade. Mary Frances Stafford from Martel joined them. Still directing them were Mrs. Reynolds and Mr. Shivers. In September 1942, everyone crowded into the hot auditorium. All were talking and push- ing, and, of course, the freshmen were doing their share. They were so dazed that they could not concentrate on what was being said, but they do remember the principal was advising the mabout high school. This year eight new members joined the class. They were Wilma lane Green, Ethel Sow- ers, and Frank Conner from Blue Grass: Mary Ruth King and Esta Edwards from Currier, Ray Chambers from Alabama: Dorothy Yadon from Ball Camp: and Thelma McReynolds from Farragut. Now with such a large class, Mrs. Reynolds and Mr. Shivers had their hands full. When they were promoted to the tenth grade, they realized that their dream had come true, as they were no longer freshmen. This year they welcomed Iohnnie Mae Nipper from Karns. Mr. McMahan replaced Mr. Shivers as sponsor. Iuniorsl Iuniors at lastl Work was harder, but realizing that there was only one more step to go, they could take it. Mrs. Reynolds was still with them, but Mr. McMahan was replaced by Mr. Cannon. Here Ada Huskey from Knoxville High School joined the group. September-September, 1946. Seniors! Yes, seniors they were! Bettye Babb and Lloyd Smith from Farragut: Rose Mary Cabbage from Clinton: and lack Pinkston from the armed Ergice joined them. Mrs. Reynolds still claimed them, but Mr. Cannon was replaced by Mr. 1 son.
