Commander David Putnam Sargent, Jr., a native of Groton, Massachusetts, was graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and received his commission as an Ensign through the NROTC Program in June 1967. Commander Sargent ' s first sea assignments were as Main Propulsion Assistant and then as Engineer Officer aboard USS WALLACE L. LIND (DD-703). Other sea assignments include duty as Executive officer of USS VENTURE (MSO-496) and USS FIDELITY (MSO-443), Commanding Officer of USS SHAKORI (ATE- 162), Executive Officer of USS SPRUANCE (DD-963), and duty as Chief Staff Officer with COMDESRON 22. In addition to his sea assignments. Commander Sargent attended the Naval Postgraduate school where he received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineer- ing. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College. In 1978-1979, Commander Sargent served a tour of duty as Officer in Charge of U.S. Navy Technical Assistant Field Team with the Imperial Iranian Navy in Iran. His most recent assignment was with the Naval Sea Systems Command as the Surface Warfare Program manager in the AEGIS shipbuilding program, PMS-400. Commander Sargent ' s decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Navy Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.

4 LCDR James Sherrill Hamlin, Jr. EXECUTIVE OFFICER United States Navy Lieutenant Commander James Sherrill Hamlin, Jr., a native of Norfolk, Virginia was graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography and received his commission as an Ensign in 1973. Immediately after graduation Lieutenant Commander Hamlin attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California and earned a Master of Science Degree in Oceanography in September 1974. He then attended nuclear power training. LCDR Hamlin ' s sea assignments in addition to FARRAGUT have included two tours on USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) where he served as Main Propulsion Assistant and E2 Division Officer and on USS VREELAND (FF-1068) where he served as Weapons Officer, participating in the PLO evacuation operations during summer 1982. Lieutenant Commander Hamlin ' s decorations include. Navy Commendation Medal with gold star. Navy Achivement Medal and various other personal and unit awards. Lieutenant Commander Hamlin is married to the former Pamela L. Malcolm of Arnold, Maryland and they have two children.
