They are all true exclamations ...... but is that all? What is a seven month cruise? To some it's being away from home too long. But in retrospect a long deployment is the opportunity to do what men in Navy ships are supposed to do. We are the country's first line of defense. The Navy's mobility and internal co-ordination makes it so. Navy ships keep the sea lanes open for U.S. and allied shipping- traffic. Our presence overseas and the interaction of our sailors with people of other nation's help maintain good relations and creates good will. Peace Through Power is the Navy's motto. Power is strength. Strength to do what we must to help keep our country free. There's an internal struggle that goes on in the Navy, especially at se-KS. This is a personal struggle. Living in close quarters with 400 oth r sailors takes special consideration on everyone's part. We grow with each other, we suffer with each other, and .we learn from each other. For the young sailor being underway it is an opportunity to get his sea legs. For the more experienced sailor, it's an opportunity to teach and gain more experience as well. For those of you left at home who love and miss us, it is a time of loneliness, decisions and maybe frustration. But iust as the serviceman supports his country, so do you, by supporting him. For this we thank you. 75
