Siucfauf Uoanczll J Y 1' f U-Q-,f ' The Student Council is composed of four elected representatives from each high school class plus a senior presi- dent and vice-president elected by the entire student body. Members meet each week with their sponsor, Mr. James Geiger, to discuss current school problems and seek their solutions. Members thus gain valuable experience in legislative procedures and self government. ln general, the Council exists to promote the welfare of the stu- dents, to assist the principal at school functions, to schedule school dances and assembly programs, to act as a pop- candy commissary, to aid in the selection of cheerleaders, and to encourage civic drives. This year faced with a number of issues arising from the new and larger school situation, the Council undertook a maior revision of the school constitution. Provisions regarding elections were clarified considerably, and the Student Court, having proved unworkable and un- popular, was abolished. ln addition to their regular duties, the Student Council sponsored the annual Homecoming festivities, the Talent Show, and the New Year's Eve Dance, and dis- tributed printed basket ball schedules. At the end of the school year, a certif- icate of merit was awarded to each Stu- dent Council member in recognition of his or her service in this important phase of school activity. ? 1 ,,, .- l fx, ' Y ri - A ' - X: ., ,,,,w,,,,,.N, ,,.,, Seated: Gary Walters, Mr. Peel, advisor, Lenore Gildemeister, Paul Kosmenslry, Richard Goulet, Phil Warriner. BLUE AND WHITE The Farmington Journalism Department took a step forward this year with the purchase of a print- ing press and the introduction ofthe Blue and White a new school paper. The weekly paper is printed by the letterpress method, a vast improvement over the mimeograph process formerly used for the school publication. Students of the journalism class write all the copy which is then sent to the Farmington Enter- prise to be set by linotype. Setting ofthe headlines page make-up, and all the actual press work are done at the school by the students. Journalism students spend two class hours a day preparing the paper, for which they receive one and one-half credits. The success of the new paper is shown clearly A- by the increase in circulation from 150 copies at l the opening of tne school year to 500 copies at Christmas-time. The five cents charged for a copy enables the publication to pay its own way.
