They are partially correct, for we had two of them every day. However, this is only part of the picture. There is also time for fun and recrea- tion. In the afternoon, softball and basketball games were played to decide which town of the State of Dirigo would be champion. During the latter half of the week, campaigns, such as we have here at school, for governor, senate and house members were run off by the three political parties. To top it oft, next to the last night is stunt night. Different groups take part in crazy stunts and skits to supply hilarity for all. So you see, besides learning about our State Government, everyone has a good time and makes many new friends. v -jill' Xgila fo Since we have been to Girls' State, we understand more about our government and how it is run. Each one of us had a won- derful time, and we all partici- pated in elections and town meetings. Neither of us will ever forget Dirigo Girls' State. It's a wonderful opportunity for girls. He also was skimeister in the Hebron Academy and Stephens meets. ln the last few meets of the season the team had to compete without three of its members, Charles Rounds, John Kenney, and James Brownrigg. The team will lose two seniors, its co-captains. The results of the meets are as follows: Stephens . ... ..., . .. .. first Hebron Academy .. . . first F. H. S. The girls had o very successful season this year. They won the F.H.S. Winter Carnival and placed second in the Wilton Academy Carnival. The team won the Girls' State of Maine Interscholastic Championship which was held at Andover, Maine. It was pleasing to note that this was the largest squad ever, and Coach Burnell hopes that a large number of girls will continue to show interest next year. Members of the team are: Coach Davis Burnell, Captain Betsy Bigelow, Jan Sinskie, Linda Carnie, Rosalind Hodgkins, Linda Flint, Bonnie Sinski, Lorraine Jones, Dorothy and Donna Pierce, Carole Holman, Millie Corson, Susan Clark, Susan McCleery, and Beverly Hyer. . 'SLAM Mrs. McLean led the softball team through a great winning season. Out of 7 games, we lost only two, giving us a total of 5 wins - most of which by a large margin. The team played with great enthusiasm for the game and showed true sportsman- ship whether losing or winning. Coptaining our team were Sherry Hemingway and Jean Lidstone who will be missed this year along with the other seniors, Diane Hodgkins, Jill Flint, and Jane Lidstone. Our J. V.'s also did a good iob this year. They came out even at the end ofthe sea- son with two wins and two losses. We'll be looking for some of these J. V.'s on the varsity next year. J, V. The Greys had a slack season with an overall record of 4 wins, and 6 losses. Gary Whitney was the leading pitcher for Coach Friberg's combine as he twirled four wins against 2 losses. Terry Brooks was the leading hitter. Larry Anderson showed great promise as a pitcher during his three remaining years at FHS. Dave Spear was singled out by Coach Friberg as the Most Improved Player of the season. Spear and Dick Pratt will be welcome men at infield positions in the future. 1958 lm The 1958 track season saw the team win their 'l5th Franklin County Meet. Robin Bigelow broke the record in the 880 along with the dual record set by Fred Brahmer and Dick Doggett in the high hurdles.
