' 7 07, ,gfafv Boys' State is a fine chance to learn about the government of our own state of Maine. In high school we are required to study national govern- ment, but not that which is even closer to us, our own state government. At Boys' State a model state government is organized with everyone taking part. There you have an opportunity to hear some of the leading men in the Maine government speak on the functions of their offices. Dirigo Boys' State, however, is more than just Cl study of government. It is a chance to make many new friends from all over the state and, in itself is a lesson in citizenship and getting along with others such as could never be learned in the schoolroom. Q Z Staff I had a wondertul and very educci tional week at Dirigo Girls State I now have a much clearer understand ing of the many dltiferent duties that our government performs Each girl had a chance to take an active part in town meetinqs and in state and primary elections I attended lectures given by outstanding political figures of Maine One of the biggest high lights was meeting Governor and Mrs Muskie I shall always remember the good times that I had at Girls State Sherry Hemingway BOYS' STATE Frederic Brahmer, Robert Bigelow. 9-nv gm- in x 'ss Y' il , ici, Q .4 .TA 5 x 1 x .NS 9 iP1 s ' x H... arniuoz ff? The thirty-two member orchestra participated in two concerts this spring. The string orchestra has a tentative engagement on WGAN-TV. The chorus has thirty-seven members and has participated in a Hi-PTO meeting and a Christmas assembly.
